With the regular season now in the record books, it’s time once again (we can say that this year) for the annual Old Dog Awards. Note: This piece was guest written by Tom Leonard and if he continues to work his connections from the Muskegon area, we’ll get him a proper byline, but for now, this is published under Tim Braun. Hockey is a world of connections and great people. I recently had the privilege of chatting with one of […]

There were plenty of thought-provoking things that happened last week in college sports in general and for Husky Nation in particular. Here’s a look at several of these fascinating stories. Item: The meek largely (for at least one night) inherited the WCHA on Saturday. There were plenty of unexpected results in the WCHA this week as […]

In my last column for 2018, The Old Dog will split the space that THG grants me into two short subjects. In the first half, we’ll look back at last weekend’s series with Alabama-Huntsville. Then we’ll look at my list of gifts Santa can bring to the Huskies.

This week, the Old Dog thinks it’s time to talk about the issue of Olympic sized rinks and how the Huskies handle this challenge. Certainly, each year is a new set of experiences and outcomes. Still, for several years, it’s hard to avoid the conclusion that Them Dogs seem to have trouble playing on 200 […]

What we saw the last two weeks wasn’t the same as the Watergate affair, but the term Saturday Night Massacre fits what the Huskies did first to Alaska and then to Bemidji State on back-to-back weekends at home.

After sweeping the Alaska Nanooks (2-10-2) the Michigan Tech Huskies (7-5-0) find themselves atop the WCHA standings going 6-0-0 in conference play. They continue their homestand this coming weekend against the Bemidji State Beavers (6-5-1). The Beavers are coming away from an impressive split with the #4 Minnesota State Mavericks (10-2-0) handing the Mavericks only […]
