Manchester United target Joao Felix is ‘very happy’ at Benfica (Picture: Getty) Benfica star Joao Felix has poured cold water on speculation that he could be set for a big-money transfer move to Manchester United this summer. Felix, 19, had an exceptional debut season for Benfica, notching up 15 goals and seven assists in the Primeira Liga, and Europe’s elite clubs are queueing up for the Portuguese attacking midfielder. Reports claim that United are in talks to sign Felix and are prepared to trigger his £89 million release clause, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer desperate to overhaul his squad ahead of the 2019/20 campaign. The likes of Manchester City, Juventus and Real Madrid have also been linked with the Portugal Under-21 international. [metro-zone-post-strip] However, Felix appears to have ruled out a move to Old Trafford by insisting that he’s ‘very happy’ at Benfica. Asked about his future, Felix told Benfica’s official website: ‘I think that time will tell. ‘I’m good here, I’m very happy, I love the club, I adore these fans who adore me. In my years, the best players have always been the best people,’ the Norwegian told United’s official app earlier this month. ‘You have to have that value system – do you say that? A certain kind of attitude about you to make a Manchester United player. [metro-zone-post-strip] ‘You have got to have qualities and our fans want to see exciting players. We want to get up from our seats. You see defenders who defend, like that’s their life, that’s the most important thing. ‘When we go to press with Jesse and Marcus, in the games against Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool and Chelsea, when we start these games, our fans clap a striker making a tackle. ‘That’s the way it’s been and in our culture. You have to have that work ethic and we’re scouting the market trying to find the right ones.’ [metro-link url=”https://metro.co.uk/2019/05/25/chelsea-set-price-real-madrid-sign-eden-hazard-9689575/” title=”Chelsea set price for Real Madrid to sign Eden Hazard”]

JOHN TERRY has reportedly held talks with Middlesbrough about becoming their new manager. The ex-Chelsea and England captain is said to have spoken to Boro’s chairman Steve Gibson this week. John Terry has reportedly held talks with Middlesbrough over becoming their new manager Tony Pulis left the Teesiders on May 17 after a dismal end to the Championship season saw them miss out on promotion by just one point. But Riverside chief Gibson has many talented candidates to choose from, according to the Guardian. Local lad and ex-Boro hero Jonathan Woodgate was favourite with the bookies but has been usurped by former Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic in the last few days. Argentine legend Gabriel Batistuta was also reportedly interested in the role but he is not believed to be a viable candidate. Despite the wealth of talent on offer to Gibson, he is said to be pondering his decision carefully as he looks to fire the club back to the Premier League next season. That mindset may suit Terry who will first be focused on helping Dean Smith’s Aston Villa side overcome Derby – led by his old mates Frank Lampard and John Terry – in the Championship play-off final on Monday. [article-rail-section title=”LATEST SPORTS NEWS” posts_category=”321″ posts_number=”8″ query_type=”recent” /] However upon Pulis’ departure, Gibson praised the Welshman for his for his work with the club and put particular emphasis on his ability to work within financial constraints. This may work in the favour of outside chance Paul Heckingbottom who is in charge at Hibs and would be used to working with smaller budgets. Heckingbottom has previously managed Leeds and Barnsley and would likely jump at the chance to return to England. FORMER Real Madrid boss Julen Lopetegui has allegedly approached Chelsea to confirm his interest in replacing Maurizio Sarri. Speculation continues to mount over the Italian’s future at Stamford Bridge with Juventus believed to be keen on bringing him back to Serie A. Julen Lopetegui has reportedly declared his interest in replacing Maurizio Sarri at Chelsea Sarri, 60, led the Blues to a third-place finish and to next week’s Europa League Final with Arsenal – but the Baku showdown with the Gunners may well be his final match in charge. Disgruntled fans are bored of his football as rumours continue to swell Chelsea are lining-up a swoop for their ex-midfielder Frank Lampard. Now The Times claim Spaniard Lopetegui has thrown his hat into the ring if the job is going. The 52-year-old has been out of work since October when he was sacked for the second time within six months. He had only been in charge of the Galacticos for 14 matches before a 5-1 mauling at the hands of Barcelona proved to be the final straw for the Bernabeu board. That followed his dramatic exit from the Spain national team last summer on the eve of the World Cup. Despite that tough period, Lopetegui is keen to get back into the dug-out and he appears to have set his sights on the Premier League. [article-rail-topic title=”LATEST CHELSEA TRANSFER NEWS” term_id=”9501″ posts_number=”6″ /] Today’s report states he “has been in England making contact with several clubs recently” – with the main one being the Stamford Bridge outfit. Lopetegui is represented by super-agent Jorge Mendes, someone the Blues board know well from numerous transfer deals over recent years. But after declaring interest in the potential role, both the Portuguese negotiator and Lopetegui failed to receive any indication either way on whether Sarri will get the axe.
