Ukip had a terrible night in the European elections (Picture: AFP/Getty) Ukip has lost all of its MEPs in the European Parliament, despite topping the voting figures in 2014. The pro-Leave party’s support collapsed after the insurgent Brexit Party came top of the polls in England and Wales, picking up 28 MEPs. Ukip leader Gerard Batten lost his seat in London, which he had held since 2004. The party’s controversial candidate YouTuber Carl Benjamin, who was second on the party’s South West regional list, also failed to get elected. Mr Benjamin was condemned during the campaign for comments he made about Labour MP Jess Phillips. It was a landslide night for Nigel Farage’s Brexit Party (Picture: Reuters) The 39-year-old, who styles himself online as the “Sargon of Akkad”, said he “wouldn’t even rape” the Labour MP and then refused to apologise for the remarks. In the 2014 EU elections, Ukip stormed into pole position with 28 MEPs, up 11 from 2009. However, following a series of defections, the party went into this year’s elections defending only three of the seats it had won five years ago. It was a landslide night for Nigel Farage’s Brexit Party (Picture: Reuters) Nigel Farage’s Brexit Party stole the night as both main parties were wiped out in the European elections. The Tories were obliterated winning less than nine per cent of the vote in what was their worst election result since 1832. With Theresa May on her way out of Downing Street following three years of disastrous Brexit negotiations, her party lost 15 of its 18 seats, coming in fifth place behind the Green Party. Labour were also battered, losing eight of its 18 seats, as both the Liberal Democrats and the Greens benefitted by appealing to the Remain vote. But it was Farage’s insurgent party that romped home, winning in every region except London and picking up 28 seats. The Lib Dems, who were reduced to just a single MEP in 2014, won 15 MEPs across the UK and topped the poll in London ahead of Labour. The Green Party won seven MEPs, including Britain’s coolest mayor Magid Magid, while the SNP is forecast to win three MEPs in Scotland. Plaid Cymru equalled the single seat they won in 2014.
