Antoine Griezmann was ‘devastated’ by Atletico’s Champions League exit (Picture: Getty) The sister of Atletico Madrid star Antoine Griezmann has denied the forward is in talks to leave the club following their Champions League exit. Speculation has been rife since Juventus overturned Atletico’s two-goal lead in Turin last Wednesday that Griezmann wants to leave the club. The Frenchman was close to joining Manchester United in 2017 before a transfer ban was placed on Atletico and he flirted with Barcelona last summer before signing a new long-term deal in the Spanish capital. However, Maud, Antoine’s sister, has revealed that her brother is not in contact with any other clubs and wants to stay with Atletico. Griezmann’s release clause is said to be around ‘It’s right, Antoine is disappointed by this elimination,’ said Maud. ‘One of his objectives while staying at Atletico was to win the [Champions League] in his stadium. ‘But he is the same as his teammates, coach, officials and fans. ‘It’s tiring to read new things every day about what my brother thinks and about whoever says they know what he’s thinking. ‘The only people who have been managing my brother’s interests for two years are myself, my father, Alain, and our lawyer, Sevan Karian.’ “If there is a club we are in contact with right now, it’s Atletico Madrid and no other.’ [metro-tag-post-strip] Reports in Spain claim Griezmann’s release clause will be reduced this summer from around £170million to around £103m. The Frenchman is currently on international duty, where he has linked up with close friend Paul Pogba. The midfielder was desperate to convince Griezmann to join him at United in 2017 but he opted to stay with Diego Simeone’s side. Long summers without the beautiful game is often the most painful time of the year for football fans. One consolation, however, is that it means the transfer market is in full swing. Brooks has been brilliant for Bournemouth Many of this season’s new recruits have proven to be superb pieces of business – take Salomon Rondon, who has been heroic for Newcastle and has been lauded as the signing of the season by Tony Cascarino – or David Brooks, who has been a sensation for Bournemouth since his move from Sheffield United.
