In March of 2017, we recommended 50 of the best podcasts for your listening pleasure. Many of those shows continue to do great work, including Heavyweight, Still Processing, The Read, Dear Sugars and Reply All. And two popular pods from last year’s list, 2 Dope Queens and Pod Save America, snagged HBO TV show deals. But since that list dropped, the medium has continued […]

Phillip Cocu will link up with Derby at their pre-season training camp in Florida today, with Mel Morris saying the Netherlands legend will be appointed new Rams manager by this evening. Morris, the Derby owner, joined talkSPORT on Thursday morning in the wake of Frank Lampard completing his move to Chelsea, to bid farewell to his departing head coach and provide an update on the search for their new boss. And while the appointment of Cocu has been delayed due to Chelsea’s prolonged talks with Lampard, the deal bringing the former PSV and Barcelona midfielder to Pride Park should be confirmed before the end of Thursday. Phillip Cocu is expected to be appointed Derby’s new manager by the end of the day [bc_video video_id=”6049090198001″ account_id=”6023583704001″ player_id=”default” embed=”in-page” padding_top=”56%” autoplay=”” min_width=”0px” max_width=”640px” width=”100%” height=”100%” caption=”Max Rushden and Ray Parlour discuss whether Frank Lampard is ready for the Chelsea job “] In fact, Cocu is flying over to Florida to join Derby’s pre-season training camp, and Morris confirmed the appointment should be announced once the 48-year-old has landed in the United States. “We’re hoping we can get it over the line today,” Morris told Jim White on talkSPORT. “It’s been a bit unfortunate from our side that we couldn’t actually do anything until Chelsea had finally signed Frank, otherwise we had the risk of ending up with TWO managers – and that would have been very embarrassing I’m sure. “But we are hoping today we can get it done. “The only complication is that Phillip and a number of his staff will be flying out to Florida today to join the team over there, so the actual signing may be later in the day rather than this morning, but that’s the way things work out. [article-rail-section title=”LATEST FOOTBALL NEWS” posts_category=”221″ posts_number=”12″ query_type=”recent” /] “We were hoping to get it done last night, but it’s more likely it will be this evening when they arrive in Florida.” Discussing what Cocu, who won three Eredivise titles while in charge of PSV, will bring to the Rams, Morris added: “The style of football is extremely similar to how Frank has been setting Derby up. “His ability to embrace youth is something Phillip’s got a tremendous track record with. Plus, he’s got a phenomenal record of achieving success in the Eredivisie. “From a supporter’s point of view it’s all about what happens on the field, and we are looking forward to some exciting football continuing the philosophy and style of play we put in place across the last season.” Cocu won four major honours, including three league titles, during his time in charge of PSV On the decision to appoint Cocu, Morris continued: “We’ve said right the way along that with a replacement for Frank we would have to be very careful and make sure we are looking for the qualities that we want to continue with the club, which is the style of football, the philosophical match with the club, and shared values. “We want someone to come on board who can also inspire the players, and we also want someone who the players can look up to for their playing career as well as in management.” Lampard leaves Pride Park to become Chelsea’s new manager after just a single season, having guided the Rams to the Championship play-off final, where they lost to Aston Villa. While there are doubts over the former Chelsea midfielder’s suitability for such a huge job at this early stage of his career, Morris has no doubts he will do ‘exceptionally well’ in the Stamford Bridge dugout. Over to you, boss! #WelcomeHomeFrank pic.twitter.com/vPGpCUSsMX — Chelsea FC (@ChelseaFC) July 4, 2019 He finished: “It’s been quite a long process, but Chelsea have finally announced Frank this morning, which I think is fantastic for them. It allows us to move on also. “We’ve known for a while it was likely to happen, and I sincerely wish Frank and Chelsea all the very best, and I’m sure he’ll do exceptionally well for them.”

Mark Warburton has backed Steven Gerrard’s decision to reject Derby County to remain at Rangers, and believes the manager can bring the Scottish Premiership title back to Ibrox next season. Championship club Derby are believed to be making contingency plans for the seemingly inevitable departure of current boss Frank Lampard to Chelsea. Derby County reportedly approached Steven Gerrard to succeed Frank Lampard as manager at Pride Park, and he said no. According to recent reports, the Rams wanted to talk to Gerrard about succeeding his former England team-mate, but he turned down their advances. The Liverpool legend has three years left on his contract at Ibrox after ending his first season in charge in second place, with rivals Celtic lifting their eighth consecutive league title. But Warburton believes the Hoops’ reign of dominance will soon be over now Gerrard has signalled his commitment to Rangers. Mark Warburton believes Rangers are on the cusp of something special under Steven Gerrard “Derby is a fantastic Championship club with fantastic support, but in Glasgow Rangers you have a real institution there. “I’m sure Steven is keen to dispel any such rumours and focus on the task at hand.” Listen back to a clip of Mark Warburton on talkSPORT above
