Bruins defenseman John Moore experienced the Toronto Maple Leafs attacking pressure in real time during Wednesday night’s 6-4 victory at Scotiabank Arena. The Bruins evened the best of seven first round NHL Stanley Cup series against the Maple Leafs and will resume play on Friday night at the TD Garden. “It felt great to be back out there with the team and obviously winning was a huge bonus,” said Moore on Thursday afternoon at Warrior Ice Arena in Brighton. “It is difficult coming in, especially in the middle of the playoffs, and I tried to keep my game simple and felt good about it.” Moore competed his first game since suffering an upper body injury at Tampa Bay on March 26, when he was drilled from behind by Lightning forward Adam Erne. Moore played 11:36 minutes against the Leafs paired primarily with Matt Grzelcyk and finished with a minus two. “The pace was a lot quicker and you throw in the team speed that Toronto has and they seem to get to it pretty regularly,” said Moore “It was definitely a quicker pace than coming back in the regular season. “It just seems every chance they get they are trying to put pucks behind you and they are always having speed on the puck. That was evident just watching the games and then last night getting in it seemed like every chance they had they put pucks behind us and they had guys flying after them and getting the body on you.” Moore was one of three roster options available to Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy to fill in for Kevan Miller, who missed the final 17 games of the season with a lower body injury with no definitive timeline for his return. Connor Clifton played in the first two games against the Leafs, Steven Kampfer got the nod in Game 3 before Moore got his opportunity. Moore is the most experienced of the three, having appeared in 509 NHL games and 39 in the post season. Moore anticipates being alongside Grzelcyk in Game 5. “Gryz is such a smart player especially playing his off side and we just tried to keep it really simple,” said Moore. “This series and really all playoffs are about defending in front of your net and be hard to play against. “I thought we did that, I thought we competed and battled. The thing about the playoffs is that you can be blinded by what’s happened in the past and we have shutoff what happened on Wednesday and are focused on Friday. It’s a best of three series now with home ice and that’s the way we look at it.” The 6-2, 210-pound, Moore has 36 goals and 76 assists in his NHL career and it 2-6-8 against the Leafs. Moore said he took his cue from team captain Zdeno Chara on the best way to manage the Leafs team speed. “He had a monster game, he was a force at both ends and its started with the first shift where he had a huge hit on (Mitchell) Marner,” said Moore.
