Hector Bellerin is to miss the start of the 2019/20 Premier League season as he continues his recovery from a knee injury, reports claim. Bellerin, the Spain full-back, has been sidelined since January when he was stretchered off during Arsenal’s 2-0 defeat of Chelsea with what was later discovered to be an ACL problem. Bellerin was struck down by injury during a January match against Chelsea He had an operation on the ligaments in his left knee, with the initial prognosis claiming a recovery time of ‘six to nine months’. And the Standard say Bellerin is likely to be pushing the end of that time frame with the 24-year-old expected to miss several weeks of the upcoming domestic season. [article-rail-section title=”LATEST FOOTBALL NEWS” posts_category=”221″ posts_number=”12″ query_type=”recent” /] The report adds that Arsenal hoped he would return during pre-season so he could play in the Gunners’ opener against Newcastle, but that August 11 clash will come too soon for the Barcelona born defender. Bellerin’s lengthy recovery, and doubts over how he will adapt to suffering such a serious injury, has led to Unai Emery plotting a move for a new right-back this summer. HECTOR BELLERIN is set to miss the start of next season as he continues his recovery from knee surgery. The Arsenal defender, 24, underwent an op on his left ACL in January after being taken off in a match against Chelsea. Bellerin was injured in the Premier League clash against Chelsea in January Spain international Bellerin was originally ruled out for a maximum of nine months but there appear to be ongoing concerns about his progress, report the Evening Standard. Bellerin – who was told he could be “better than ever” by Arsenal’s doc – now must go through further time out before a return to competitive action. That will be a blow to boss Unai Emery, who allowed Bellerin’s fellow full-back Stephan Lichtsteiner to leave the club. It was in March that Bellerin admitted he was “scared” of a setback in his recovery after suffering a spasm while sleeping without his cast. In a video on his YouTube channel, Bellerin said: “The other day I was sleeping without the cast. “Sometimes when I sleep I just have to move my legs in a spasm. ‘BIT SCARED’ “I had a spasm, woke up in the morning and had pain in the back of my knee. “I went to rehab and told them but they said it’s normal. “I’ve had surgery two weeks ago, so I thought nothing of it. So I thought nothing of it but this morning it was painful again.” Opening up on his work with a physio, Bellerin added: “I did a very tough rehab today. When I got home, I stood up from the sofa and couldn’t even walk because of the pain. “I’m a bit scared now that something has happened.” [article-rail-topic title=”Latest Arsenal news” term_id=”880″ posts_number=”6″ /] Arsenal were advised by club legend Robert Pires to go for Crystal Palace star Aaron Wan-Bissaka as cover for Bellerin – but he now could be on his way to Man Utd. Bellerin appears to have turned into a part-time photographer and fashion icon in his time off. He had documented his recovery in a number of photos on Instagram and worn some questionable outfits while out and about in London.
