LOVE… PLUS ADMISSION I’m just not commonly too big upon celebrating Feb 14, unfortunately with you. I have nothing against chocolate or perhaps flowers as well as cards, although there’s something special about this synthetic, highly sold, contrived ‘holiday’ that can feel forced, disingenuous, and insincere. Ironically, Valentine’s Day is everything really like is never […]

Who's the chubby, aging toddler boomer waddling by airport following empty airport, wearily tugging along his two-piece baggage roller? Hey, its not Michael Moore (all over again). Why, for heavens sake, its none apart from a bored, disgruntled Al Gore, Jr. The person Who Individually Believes He Coulda/Woulda/Shoulda Been King! Nicely, a minimum of Saturday […]

TRANSFATAL EXPRESS

Film can no longer produce scandal, nor depict scandal. The disappearance of film, consequently, is the only filmic scandal left, rehearsed every year on the red carpet and inside the Beltway. Formerly, film served specific functions in respect to war and scandal. As Baudrillard says of Apocalypse Now, the film was the continuation of the […]

I have always loved reading. I read all the time when I was younger and fell in love with the way that words on a page could form vivid images in your mind. You could fall in love with a character that wasn’t real but made you feel like they were standing right next to […]

TRAVELING WITH ARDEN

The South Island of New Zealand was where I really experienced that postcard beauty I wrote about in my North Island Post. My trip to the South Island was an organized group spring break trip. It was about a week long, and I didn’t have to think about anything – all food, accommodations, and tours […]

“Bates Motel” fans everywhere are screaming for joy as their favorite scream queen Vera Farmiga just earned an Emmy nomination for her supporting turn in Netflix’s limited series “When They See Us.” Farmiga was last recognized by the TV academy for the debut season of A&E’s cult horror series as Best Drama Actress in which she played Norma Bates, the overbearing mother to psychotic son Norman (Freddie Highmore). Despite her performance being heralded throughout the show’s five-season run (2013-18), she was never again recognized by Emmy voters. Until now. Farmiga’s current nomination comes for taking on the role of Elizabeth Lederer, the real-life prosecutor who was responsible for sending the Central Park Five to prison in 1989. Ava DuVernay‘s timely miniseries chronicles every aspect of the infamous Central Park jogger case, from the night in question, to the criminal investigation and trials, to the ultimate release of the men now known as the Exonerated Five. The other two contenders for Best Limited Series are Showtime’s “Escape at Dannemora” (12) and HBO’s “Sharp Objects” (8). Besides her two career Emmy citations for “Bates Motel” and “When They See Us,” Farmiga is also a former Oscar also-ran for “Up in the Air” (Best Supporting Actress, 2009).
