Redlands Daily Facts
The Redlands Fourth of July Band, a community band founded in 1981 by Curtiss Allen Sr., will begin rehearsing for its 39th season on Sunday, March 31. Wind and percussion players of all ages and abilities are invited to join the band. Beginning this season, the band will rehearse in the Fellowship Hall of First Baptist Church of Redlands, 51 W. Olive Ave. The hall is in the basement of the building. Rehearsals are 3 p.m. Sundays, with set-up beginning at 2:30. Potential new members are asked to arrive by 2:30 p.m. on March 31, in order to complete registration forms. Since its founding, the band has played several sets of patriotic and other music during Redlands’ Fourth of July celebrations. The band also performs for other events, including the annual Strawberry Festival at Plymouth Village retirement community in Redlands. The band’s founder and director Curtiss Allen Sr. died in 2016 and his son Curtiss Allen Jr. now directs the band. For information, email Curtiss Allen Jr. at allenhouseful@gmail.com.
