Frolic

I have never been a fan of books with G-rated love scenes. Call me weird, but I like my fictional lovemaking to have some heft. I want chapters of passion and heat. I want adorably stilted dialogue because the characters are driving each other wild with their teasing and touching. And most of all, I […]

Precepts

In our first two articles in this series, on “Spirits in Genesis” and “Spirits in Exodus to Deuteronomy,” we examined the word “spirit” in the Old Testament, and discovered that the Hebrew word is ruach, pronounced “roo’-akh,” with the emphasis upon the first syllable. We examined the eleven occurrences of this word in Genesis and […]

Joyful and Awed

And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.”  And he said, “Go, and say to this people: ‘Keep on hearing, but do not understand; keep on seeing, but do not perceive.’ Make the heart of this people dull, […]

His Light Shines

Good Morning! Last night I was very discouraged. I was in one of those moods. Everyone gets them, I suppose. No, I take that back. We all find ourselves in that situation from time to time. I’m better now, but it took some work. Let’s see if I can recreate this in case any of […]

Pursuing God

So they devise a daring and deceptive plan to lie to Joshua and the Israelites and get […]

Laboratory studies (Latour & Woolgar 1979; Woolgar, 1982) is one of the main action areas in STS and as Doing (2008) indicates “(it) represents the foundation of STS.” “The accent (of this discipline) is on the in situ observation of scientific activity” (Woolgar, 1982). Knoor-Cetina (1995) points her glance on the relationship between the laboratory […]

Until now, I had no idea my cat, Cleo, had ideas of her own, which she thought of all by herself. Until that moment I had the mistaken belief Cleo depended on me to make all her important decisions. If someone told me the day would come when Cleo would step up and control her own destiny, I would have smiled at the idea. If I decided Cleo should stop asking to be petted or stop trying to persuade me to give her an extra portion of special delicious Kitty Bit candy, she would accept my decision. If I decided she should quit bothering me by lounging around on my computer desk so I had to lift her paw off the keyboard to write, she would obey. Or, if I decided when she should go out, Cleo would indicate her willingness to comply with my wishes by going to the door to let her out. A cat making such important decisions by herself?  Balderdash. Impossible. This morning I discovered the true state of affairs between Cleo and me. As usual, Cleo woke me up by walking on my head. ‘Okay, Cleo’, I thought. ‘So, it’s time for me to rise and dress and let you out’. I was dead wrong. When I rose and dressed, Cleo was at the sliding glass door looking outside. In the past, when I opened the door, I expected she would follow the regular routine; be gone like a flash. I opened the door to let her out. Did she go out? No, she did not. Instead, she continued to remain undisturbed and not caring about my wish to be rid of her for a few hours so I could write. Instead, she calmly and judiciously surveyed the world outside to decide if the day was up to her standard. She was looking to see what other creatures were about, what the weather was like and if it was, in her estimation, the right time to go out and play. As I watched, a light turned on in my head. I understood. Sometimes I’m slow getting the point but this time I saw right away Cleo had no wish to go out. She continued to lay there and peer through the glass, although I had opened the door wide. Cleo had decided to wait until she was good and ready before moving her bones to go out. I accepted her decision. Back to my computer I went to finish the writing I started. Five minutes later Cleo jumped to my desk. Why was she there? I soon found out. She was not there to be petted or for Kitty Kandy Bits. She spoke to me. She had made her decision. I opened the sliding glass door. Cleo leaped to the floor and raced to the porch and was gone in a flash. As she trotted away to the front of the house, I knew why she had acted as she did. Cleo knows I have her back and it was time for her to grow up. To enjoy and learn more about Author Gene Paleno’s books, visit Gene’s website; http://genepaleno.com/

One of my friends (have you ever thought about how we use the word friend? I tend to toss it around loosely but I really don’t mean friend as in bosom pal but I do have some friends who are bosom pals.) asked me if I’d ever seen this, I said no. So, a few minutes later I’d googled John […]

BismillahirRahmanirRahim Question: How do one know if a sign is to be taken as a ‘good sign’ or a ‘bad sign’? BismillahirRahmanirRahim. That’s a very good question. It’s pretty simple, if you have someone to teach you what is good and what is bad, you will be able to know. You don’t try to learn […]

God deals with His people in ways that are good for them, to help them, to direct them.  He will send them to us to help us as well.  When someone receives Jesus as their Savior the scripture says that the angels sing praises to God.  What God does – He does for His glory.  […]
