Sheffield United are in discussions with Manchester United about re-signing goalkeeper Dean Henderson on loan. The 22-year-old was instrumental as the Blades were promoted to the Premier League this season. Dean Henderson impressed for Sheffield United this season He kept 21 clean sheets in 46 matches as they finished second in the Championship and picked up the Golden Glove award. Manchester United’s own goalkeeping situation remain uncertain, with doubts over the future of Spain star David De Gea, but manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer appears to be open to the idea of again loaning out his England Under-21 international. David De Gea could leave Manchester United this summer “We’re working our way through it,” Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder told Press Association Sport. “We’ve been in discussions with Manchester United and I think they see it as a positive that he gets a year of Premier League football under his belt. “I know Dean definitely wants to stop and our supporters absolutely adore him. “We’ve got a good relationship with Manchester United and if Dean signs we’ll be delighted. “He’s been outstanding since he’s been at the club. He had a fantastic loan period at Shrewsbury, he’s kicked on and has a wonderful future ahead of him.” [article-rail-section title=”LATEST FOOTBALL NEWS” posts_category=”221″ posts_number=”8″ query_type=”recent” /] The Blades secured promotion to the top tier just two seasons after being crowned League One champions. Wilder’s squad is made up of entirely British and Irish players and the 51-year-old, who was named the League Managers’ Association Manager of the Year, does not envisage change as he prepares to embark on the biggest challenge of his career. “These are the players I know the best,” said Wilder, who has won promotion to all four divisions in the English Football League. Chris Wilder led Sheffield United to promotion to the Premier League “We’ve not dipped into the foreign market and that’s not to say that down the line I wouldn’t. “But I trust this group of players and I trust my own eye in terms of the players we’ll bring in. It’s worked for us. “Nuno (Espirito Santo) at Wolves signs Portuguese players, David Wagner at Huddersfield signed German players. I don’t think I’m bucking the trend in any way, it’s just players I know and trust.”

Manchester United are desperate to keep hold of Marcus Rashford (Picture: Getty Marcus Rashford‘s representatives pointed towards interest from arch rivals Manchester City in the latest round of contract talks with Manchester United as they seek to extract a larger deal for the striker, sources have told Metro.co.uk The striker is entering the final year of his contract at Old Trafford and United were keen for him to sign a new long-term deal in order to avoid the embarrassment of triggering a 12-month extension in his existing deal. However, though United remain ‘relaxed’ about the situation, the club have been surprised by the lack of progress made in negotiations with the forward, who they believed was happy to spend the rest of his career at Old Trafford. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made Rashford his first choice centre forward when he arrived last December and the 21-year-old initially flourished as the Norwegian reinvigorated the club. Rashford has 12 months to run on his existing deal (Picture: Getty) But Rashford’s form plummeted towards the end of the season and the club’s failure to finish in a Champions League spot means 25% pay cuts across the squad. Nevertheless, the 21-year-old is in a strong position with Barcelona keen on him but it is interest from Manchester City that will frighten United’s hierarchy. [metro-fact-box title=”Pep Guardiola on Marcus Rashford in 2017″ colour=”blue” icon=”no-icon”] ‘All of them (United’s English players) they are perfect. Rashford is a big talent, of course, and Lingard. England is safe, you have outstanding players.’ [/metro-fact-box] Pep Guardiola has made no secret of his admiration for Rashford and sources have told Metro.co.uk that he would sign the striker ‘in a heartbeat’ if he was available. City know there is no chance of United agreeing to sell the forward, meaning their only chance of signing Rashford would be on a free transfer in 2021. [metro-tag-post-strip] Though there’s little desire from Rashford to make such a controversial move, losing the academy product to their arch rivals would be a worst-case scenario for Manchester United. Rashford is believed to be seeking wages of around £200,000-a-week to make him one of the highest earners at Old Trafford and there remains an expectation from the club that a solution will be found. But there’s little urgency from Rashford’s side to make a commitment at this stage, particularly when Solskjaer faces the unenviable task of rebuilding the club this summer. Rashford’s representatives noted the £190,000-a-week wages handed to Anthony Martial earlier this year and believe the England striker deserves at least parity with the Frenchman. Manchester United target Joao Felix is ‘very happy’ at Benfica (Picture: Getty) Benfica star Joao Felix has poured cold water on speculation that he could be set for a big-money transfer move to Manchester United this summer. Felix, 19, had an exceptional debut season for Benfica, notching up 15 goals and seven assists in the Primeira Liga, and Europe’s elite clubs are queueing up for the Portuguese attacking midfielder. Reports claim that United are in talks to sign Felix and are prepared to trigger his £89 million release clause, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer desperate to overhaul his squad ahead of the 2019/20 campaign. The likes of Manchester City, Juventus and Real Madrid have also been linked with the Portugal Under-21 international. [metro-zone-post-strip] However, Felix appears to have ruled out a move to Old Trafford by insisting that he’s ‘very happy’ at Benfica. Asked about his future, Felix told Benfica’s official website: ‘I think that time will tell. ‘I’m good here, I’m very happy, I love the club, I adore these fans who adore me. Felix had a remarkable debut season for Benfica (Picture: Getty) ‘I want to enjoy the moment, play football, have fun doing what I like, and then, over time, things happen naturally. ‘I am very happy in Benfica.’ Solskjaer is looking to overhaul his squad in the coming months (Picture: Getty) Solskjaer has claimed that he’s only interested in signing players with the right ‘work ethic’ for United. ‘We’ve tried to educate our players and our kids to be proper people. In my years, the best players have always been the best people,’ the Norwegian told United’s official app earlier this month. ‘You have to have that value system – do you say that? A certain kind of attitude about you to make a Manchester United player. [metro-zone-post-strip] ‘You have got to have qualities and our fans want to see exciting players. We want to get up from our seats. You see defenders who defend, like that’s their life, that’s the most important thing. ‘When we go to press with Jesse and Marcus, in the games against Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool and Chelsea, when we start these games, our fans clap a striker making a tackle. ‘That’s the way it’s been and in our culture. You have to have that work ethic and we’re scouting the market trying to find the right ones.’ [metro-link url=”https://metro.co.uk/2019/05/25/chelsea-set-price-real-madrid-sign-eden-hazard-9689575/” title=”Chelsea set price for Real Madrid to sign Eden Hazard”]
