JAMES McAvoy has slammed English critic Quintin Letts after he slated “whining Scottish accents” in his review of a theatre show. The Glasgow-born actor, 40, hit out at the review written by Letts for the Sunday Times and branded it “derogatory”. McAvoy blasted criticism of Scots accent Writing a review of Peter Gynt at the National Theatre in London, Letts wrote: “After so much frenzied movement and whizz-bang theatrics, the fruity purr of veteran thesp Oliver Ford Davies as the button moulder brings a welcome calm to proceedings, and relief at last from the whining Scottish accents.” But X-Men star McAvoy blasted the writer’s take on Scottish cast members and urged followers on social media to share his reaction with Letts on social media. And he challenged the Englishman to a “post-show discussion” after one of his shows in the West End later this year. James McAvoy gets lip stitched up in bloody video after Soccer Aid Sharing a video on Instagram, McAvoy said: “Quentin, I would love to have a conversation with you. I’ll be doing a play soon in the West End, at the end of the year. “Maybe we could have a post-show discussion about why you think it’s okay to label the sound of an entire nation in such a derogatory fashion? Many thanks. Not as individuals, not as actors, just an entire nation. Perhaps we could invite people with Scottish accents, people with English accents, the cast of Peter Gynt, perhaps the fruity burrs of Oliver Ford Davies could mediate, that would be fantastic. Do get back to me.” McAvoy is set to star in another Hollywood horror later this year with the release of IT Chapter Two. We told earlier how the star said he was left haunted by killer clown Pennywise during filming for the sequel.
