According to Metropolitan Police Lt. David Gordon, a man in his 60s was visiting a homeless camp near the Pecos-McLeod Trailhead in the central valley before midnight when another man in his 40s rode through the camp on a bicycle at a high rate of speed. The man in his 60s hollered at the other man to slow down. According to witnesses, the cyclist stopped riding and produced a large knife, holding it in a threatening manner. The older man pulled out a gun and fired at least one warning shot. The two men began to fight when the man in his 40s was stabbed once in the chest and collapsed to the ground. The other man tried to flee but was apprehended and taken into custody by police. He also was taken to a hospital and was treated for cuts on his hand. Police detectives were investigating into early hours of Thursday morning.

San Rafael Pacifics outfielder Javion Randle was named the Pacific Association of Professional Baseball Clubs’ Most Valuable Player, the league announced Wednesday. Randle, a right-handed Houston native, batted .402 with 12 home runs, 63 runs batted in, and 17 stolen bases for the league-champion Pacifics. He had an OPS (on-base percentage plus slugging percentage) of 1.104 and earned a Gilded Glove for outfield defense. “I wasn’t sure (I’d get it),” Randle said, referencing the production of Pacifics’ shortstop Rando Moreno. “I played 14 less games than a lot of guys, but my numbers were still up there.” Randle is the fourth Pacifics player to earn the award since the league’s inception in 2012. His win, paired with Jared Koenig winning Pitcher of the Year, gives the league champion Pacifics a sweep of the top awards the league presents. Randle said he congratulated Koenig Tuesday and is looking forward to facing him when the two play in the American Association next summer. Randle will be with the Texas (Grand Prairie) Airhogs while Koenig will pitch for the Milwaukee Milkmen. The 24-year-old Randle was in his second professional season when with the Pacifics in 2018, having previously played for the Trinidad Triggers of the Pecos League in 2017. Randle also won the MVP in 2017, but appreciated the uptick in talent he saw in the Pacific Association. “It was different how they treated us. It was a a great baseball environment; they embraced us,” Randle said. “I want thank everybody… (the Pacifics are) the only team that gave me a shot… I’ll be a Pacific forever.” Girls soccer Audrey Byrne scored and posted a shut out as seven different players scored goals for Marin Academy (5-1, 3-0 BCL West) in a 7-0 win over San Domenico (0-3, 0-3) Wednesday. Lucinda Anderson, Elizabeth Kinney, Emma Jackett, Caroline Wuthrich, Halle Hanna and Sydney Ghobadian all also scored for the Wildcats. Lily Travers scored on a goal assisted by Ellie Ryerson as Tam shut out Montgomery, 1-0. The Red-tailed Hawks moved to 5-0-1 overall. Boys basketball Phil Hauser scored 16 points, Jon Burgess had 12, and Jack Miller added nine points and 12 rebounds as San Rafael (4-5, 2-2 MCAL) topped Marin Catholic (3-4, 2-2) on Wednesday, 52-41. Jefe Puu (12 points, seven rebounds) and Sam Faber (10 points) scored in double figures to lead Marin Academy to a 50-42 victory over Sonoma Academy on Tuesday night.
