JAMES Jordan got emotional after a mistake in his routine left him missing out on the perfect score during tonight’s Dancing On Ice.
The professional dancer, 40, appeared upset as he admitted to the judges that he ‘bottled out’ of performing the double twist move that was required to gain top marks.
James was emotional after he ‘bottled’ the double twist in his routine
James and his Dancing On Ice skating partner Alexandra Schauman skated to The White Stripes, Seven Nation Army, and were awarded 9.0 scores across the board from the judges.
However, the judges marks were met with loud boos from the audience, which James confessed he understood as he hadn’t performed the twist as well as he should have.
He said: “I know why they’ve marked me down. I didn’t say anything, because Alex said to me when we got off, she said, ‘Did you do the double?’ And I was like, ‘Just don’t say anything, maybe they didn’t see it.'”
He continued: “But, I put my foot down in the middle, I bottled it!”
Although impressive, his routine missed the double twist
He lifted Alexandra over his head
But, the dancer who has been in healthy competition at the top of the leader board with Wes Nelson for a while, praised the Love Island star for completing the double twist move.
He said: “Hats off to Wes, because he absolutely smashed his one.”
Holly Willoughby chipped in: “I didn’t even notice that!”
Meanwhile, Phillip Schofield commented that the move had been bothering him during rehearsals.
An emotional James hugged Alexandra at the end of the performance
James replied: “Massively. To the point where I said yesterday, I said I’m taking it out, because it’s so difficult and I said I just want to do a single one and not stress about the routine.”
Getting upset, he admitted that he tried to do the move, however decided not to and Alexandra commented: “You did try.”
He continued: “I was going to fall over, I tapped my foot down. I tried, that’s all you can do right?”
Handing over to the judges, Ashley Banjo began explaining to the former Strictly pro that his score could have been even higher if he had completed the move, although he insisted that they focus on the positives.
Holly and Phil revealed they didn’t even notice
But the judges dropped one mark for the mistake
And notoriously nasty judge Jason gave criticism
Ashley said: “That was so intense that it pushed you out of your comfort zone and the difference it makes when you choreograph to the music is so important- so thank you for always bringing the dance to the skating.”
As James watched on with tears in his eyes, the rest of the judges continued to praise him for his near perfect performance, with Christopher Dean commenting on the impressive lift that he had performed within his routine.
And notoriously nasty judge, Jason Gardiner, mirrored their comments, however stated that if the dancer was to ‘bottle it’ in the future then he would hold himself back in the competition.
He said: “You know why you didn’t get the same marks or higher than Wes, it’s because you bottled it.

“If you’re going to do that from here on in, it’s going to hold you back from getting the scores you really deserve because your musicality, the choreography, the intricacy of what you do with the footwork sets you apart from everybody else in this competition.”
Fans of the show soon took to social media to praise James on his performance, despite the small hiccup.
One wrote: “For me James Jordan was better than Wes. Totally polished neat performance. Liked the routine. And the honesty afterwards #dancingonice”
