a mama's logbook

We kicked the summer off right with a camping trip in Tennessee with friends and family. We camped near a lake, swam during the afternoons, and sat by the fire at night and again with coffee in the mornings. All the little kids were so dirty and exhausted which I think means it was a […]

spades, spatulas & spoons

In truth I am spending more time in my garden these days than in front of the computer. It has been too long since my last update. There is so much to do outside, I am busy watering and pruning and mulching and weeding. It’s certainly a full time job as the garden has expanded […]

Closer

Walking by the sea is magical, watching the waves rise and and fall and the tide pulling back to the horizon always gives me energy, inspiration and belief in plans for the future. Last week we went to Formby and thanks to a local who we met whilst walking Roma we discovered some interesting facts […]

Fitcher's Bird

Deep in the forest at the end of a long laneway outside of the village, there was a grand stone manor. It belonged to Mr. Fitcher. How it came into his hands, only he knew for certain. The property had never been his father’s nor his father’s before him. If the villagers gave much thought […]

Cairnorchies Chronicles

This morning I wanted the horses in nice and early so they’d be dry and clean for Odette when she came to trim hooves. Naturally, therefore, they refused to come in, even when called. Eventually I took a head collar and walked out to collect either Poppy or George, since they’re the ones everyone else […]

NORMAL, Ill. — It’s National Hot Dog Day and one place in central Illinois celebrates the holiday everyday. You can stop by Windy City Wieners at their Bloomington and Normal locations for a taste of Chicago’s best. “We opened up and within a month we were voted best hot dog in the area- ISU students love us, locals love us and we are just happy to be here,” said Adam Elpayaa, owner of Windy City Wieners. “It’s an all-beef premium hot dog that have a natural casing that snaps when you bite into it, which not many places do anymore,” said Elpayaa. “We drag it through the garden with mustard, relish, onion, tomato, pickles, pepper and celery salt. It really comes together on a poppy seed bun and it’s a great dog.” Just make sure to get there quick; their hot dog promo only lasts through Sunday. “Come on down , they’re only $2.25,” the owner said. “So eat as many dogs as you can.”

Dan Rico is a Brooklyn based artist who writes an introspective and atmospheric piece with his song “Let’s Go Back”. The subtle instrumental arrangement allows for a listener to put their own experiences and perspective in the place of the singer and relate fully to the lyrics. A very meditative piece by Dan Rico I’d […]

I want you to imagine you’re a navigator with the RAF; you’ve been operating onboard Halifax bombers from a rough, quickly cobbled-together airbase called Breighton in the East Riding of Yorkshire. It’s 1943 and all over the world, every country is fighting – they’ve been fighting for five long years now. You were thirty years […]
