BRITS hoping to grab a bargain at duty free when travelling through the airport may not be saving as much money as they previously thought. New research has revealed how holidaymakers could in fact be paying up to 150 per cent more when shopping at the terminal than in shops on the high street. Duty free shops may not always be offering a bargain at the airport Comparison website finder.com analysed a range of products, categorised into beauty, alcohol, fashion and food, and compared duty free prices with that of high street retailers. Cadbury’s Oreo chocolate bar is the biggest rip off in London Airports, costing £5 at duty free and just £2 at the supermarket. A 250g bag of peanut M&M’s didn’t fare much better, costing £3.50 at duty free yet just £1.50 at supermarkets. Despite passengers thinking they are grabbing a bargain, wine is also a no-no – a bottle of Domaine de Tholomies Chardonnay, for example, costs just £11.69 at retail yet £15.99 at the airport. Wine and food cost more at the airport, while spirits and beauty products cost less Along with food and wines, products including sun-care, sunglasses and toys all cost much more at the airport than at local shops. Thankfully, bargains can be found, especially when it comes to beauty products and spirits. Fragrance Armani Diamonds can be bought for 30 per cent less at duty free, costing £51.05 compared to £72 online. A TORY MP faces a year behind bars if convicted after he was charged with cheating his expenses today. Christopher Davies, 51 is accused of falsifying two invoices related to his Parliamentary expenses – including claims for furniture and pictures for his office. Chris Davies was interviewed by cops under caution about his expenses The police were handed a dossier of evidence last year relating to the MP for Brecon and Radnorshire. He will appear at Westminster Magistrates Court on 22 March. Mr Davies was questioned twice about his expenses over a fraudulent claim back in 2016. The MP claims he made an “honest mistake” with the mistake claims. Mr Davies is accused of manually creating two invoices for £450 and £250 rather than submitting the full £700 claim for the pictures by computer. He has previously said that he repaid the £450 sum, which was charged to a start-up fund for new MPs to set up offices. A CPS spokesperson said: “In November 2018, the Crown Prosecution Service received a file of evidence from the Metropolitan Police relating to an allegation that Christopher Davies, MP for Brecon and Radnorshire, falsified two invoices in support of Parliamentary expenses claims. “Following a review of the evidence, the CPS has today charged Mr Davies with two offences of making a false instrument and one offence of providing false or misleading information for allowance claims. [article-rail-section title=”MOST READ IN POLITICS” posts_category=”318″ posts_number=”12″ query_type=”popular” /] “He will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 22 March. “The Crown Prosecution Service reminds all concerned that criminal proceedings against Mr Davies are now active and that he has a right to a fair trial. It is extremely important that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings.”
