GETTING catwalk-ready hair has never been easier as you can achieve this season’s hottest looks with minimal effort. From headbands to hair pins, find out how you can make your tresses just a few simple hair tools under your belt. Band stand Wear two silk-look headbands for extra cool-girl points Thought flat headbands were so last decade? Think again. Models at Christian Dior S/S ’19 graced the catwalk with their hair slicked back and had not just one, but two silk-look headbands for extra cool-girl points. The beauty of this look is that no matter what state your mane is in (post-wash fuzz or day five grease), a sassy band is a great way of concealing a multitude of hair sins. Want to recreate the look seen at the show? Guido Palau, Redken’s global creative director explains how. “Start by creating a three-inch triangle right at the crown of your head with a comb, then twist it up into a knot with a hair elastic,” he says. “Then, starting from the left of your head, section out the remainder of your hair into about four sections. Begin wrapping the sections around to the right of your head in a swirl, using a high-strength hairspray as you go to keep them tight to your head and secure each section with a hair grip.” To finish your look, use a flat hair band (or two) to tie it together. Tigi Bed Head Hard Head Hard Hold Hairspray will help you create a bold catwalk look Tigi Bed Head Hard Head Hard Hold Hairspray, £13 from LookFantastic — buy now Skinny Velvet Headwrap in Pale Pink, £4.50 from Claire’s — buy now ’90s Knots This hairdo looks better the more dishevelled it is Updos will never go out of fashion, but to switch up your usual bun opt for something a little edgier. A top-knot with a twist (literally) might look like a throwback from the ’90s, but if it’s good enough for Fendi S/S ’19, which sent models down the runway with super-high buns, it’s good enough for us. No time to faff around and perfect it? No problem, the more dishevelled the better! “Pull your hair into a high ponytail and tie your hair with a band. Twist the ponytail until it starts to curl in on itself then wrap it around the base of the bun,” explains celebrity hairstylist Josh Wood. Secure it in place with another hair band or grips, and seal the deal with hairspray. Finally, pull out a few strands to frame your face. GHD Fashion Week ambassador Eugene Souleiman started by using a curling wand on models to add movement, to freshly washed hair. Then, after a few spritzes of salt spray to add texture, use your fingers to pull the hair back loosely. To create the faux braids, take the loose baby hair at the hairline and twist it back before securing it with a small hair grip at the crown. The best thing about this look? You can tailor it to your hair type. “There’s no ‘right’ way to do this – work with what you have to create a look full of tough attitude,” he explains.
