ARSENAL BOSS Unai Emery has warned Mesut Ozil that he needs to cut out sick days and overcome his injury problems if he wants to break back into his starting line-up.
The German midfielder has missed 12 games this season with a variety of complaints including back spasms and nagging illnesses to the exasperation of his manager.
Emery has warned Ozil that he needs to cut out sick days if he wants to play
Former Gunners Arsene Wenger admitted earlier this week the 30-year-old may have fallen into “his comfort zone” after signing a “lucrative” £350,000-a-week contract.
Despite the deal making him Arsenal’s best-paid player, Ozil has regularly been left out of Emery’s matchday squads for what the Spaniard described as “tactical reasons.”
Ozil, who escaped to Turkey for a getaway last week, sat down with the Gunners boss and was told that Emery wanted to see greater effort from him in training.
Emery said: “First, mostly, the key is in his hand. And he is working very well this week. I ask him in our conversations to be consistent.

Ozil has started just once for the Gunners since Boxing Day
“To be available for us training. When you can train with regularity, consistency, you can help us after in the games.
“Now I think this week is good for all the players because we are in an important moment for the season.
“I am looking at him in the training like we want. I know he wants. But he needs to be consistent, be available for training, for the matches.
“Without the injuries, without being sick. Like that, I think we can see the best Mesut with us.”

Ozil is in line for a recall to the first-team squad after his latest bout of illness ruled him out of Arsenal’s 1-0 loss to BATE in the first leg of their Europa League clash.
However, Emery will be unable to call upon the suspended Alexandre Lacazette after the striker saw red late on but Aaron Ramsey is fit following a knee injury.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles missed training today due to sickness and Danny Welbeck (ankle), Hector Bellerin and Rob Holding (both knee) remain sidelined.
