THE world’s media today rushed to cover the crunch Sun debate between Boris Johnson and Jeremy Hunt. The candidates’ bombshell remarks on Brexit, Donald Trump and Jeremy Corbyn made headlines around the globe. Boris Johnson and Jeremy Hunt at last night’s Sun debate The debate made front-page news in the UK International media also covered the clash It came as the Tory rivals faced off for the last time in a 90-minute debate hosted by The Sun and talkRADIO. The two men made headlines – including UK front pages – with their blast at President Trump’s race row tweets. The Times said “Tory rivals take aim at Trump” while i went with “Tory rivals condemn ‘offensive’ Trump jibe”. French paper Le Figaro also took up the story with a headline translated as “Boris Johnson and Jeremy Hunt condemn Trump’s comments”. Other outlets focused on the candidates’ Brexit policies. They both said that getting a time limit on the backstop wouldn’t be enough to fix the existing EU deal and demanded it be removed altogether. ITV presenter Robert Peston said the promises mean a No Deal Brexit is now “probable” because Brussels is unlikely to agree to the request. Global news agency Reuters said they had set a “high bar for Brexit talks” and the comments were also picked up by the Irish Times. The Wall Street Journal reported: “British leadership rivals take Brexit position that sets up clash with EU”. ITV’s Robert Peston pointed to the Brexit comments made by the rivals Headlines from the Guardian, Daily Mail and Washington Post The Irish Times published a news story about the debate [article-rail-section title=”MOST READ IN POLITICS” posts_category=”318″ posts_number=”6″ query_type=”popular” /] The rivals’ clash over immigration, with Mr Hunt pledging to reduce numbers while Mr Johnson refused to do so, was covered by papers including the Daily Telegraph. And the New York Times reported Boris’ attacks on Mr Corbyn after the frontrunner for No10 called the Labour leader anti-Semitic. Last night’s debate was watched by a worldwide audience as it was streamed on this website and broadcast live on talkRADIO.
