ARE you looking for a gift for the Xbox gamer in your life, or do you have an Xbox One you want to get more out of over Christmas?
Look no further — we’ve tested a bunch, and rounded up the very best accessories you can get this Christmas that you will actually use over the festive period and well into next year.
If you picked up an Xbox One X this Black Friday, now’s the time to nab some extras
Some of them might even make your performance better, though we’re not promising any miracles.
LS35X Wireless Headset
It sounds great, and it’s one of the very few headsets that Just Works with Xbox One.
Full surround sound means you can tell exactly who’s sneaking up on you — and the sound quality is so good you can even tell what shoes they’re wearing.
LucidSound LS35X Wireless, £199.99 from Amazon UK – buy it now
One-button sync means they’re as easy to connect to your Xbox as your controller
The one-button sync means that if you usually play games on the TV but want to whack on your headset for chat during a quick round of Fortnite, or you just want to keep the noise of your games to yourself while the house is crowded over the festive period, you can.
Just like an Xbox controller, you can just pick it up, press the sync button on the front, and you’re good to go.
They use Xbox Wireless to connect rather than generic Bluetooth or some other system, so you are limited to what else you can use them for — but they work like a dream with an Xbox One or Xbox Wireless enabled Windows PC.
Turtle Beach Elite Pro 2 wired headset
Another great surround sound headset, but this one’s wired.
It comes with a big in-line remote / bluetooth hub that means you can quickly and easily mute you mic or change the volume without dealing with controls on the headset itself, and you can even take calls if you happen to be playing something you can pause.
Turtle Beach Elite Pro 2 Gaming Headset Plus SuperAmp, £219.99 from Amazon UK – buy it now
The Elite Pro 2 is a worthy successor to the Elite Pro
You can also just unplug and plug into your PC if you want to use them across both platforms
It’s our favourite wired headset of 2018 to boot.
Seagate 4 TB Game Drive for Xbox
Often, with ‘official’ accessories like this you end up paying extra for the logo and perhaps matching colours.
That’s not the case here, though — you get both of those, but you also get a great-performing drive at a really good price — as long as you get the 4TB drive and not the 2TB version.
Seagate 4 TB Game Drive, £99.98 from Amazon UK (£10.01 off) – buy it now
The USB 3.0 Seagate Game Drive is wonderfully simple – you plug it in and away you go
It’s got USB 3.0, it’s an all-in-one unit, and the 4TB of storage should be enough to keep all the games you actually want to play right now on it until we get the Xbox Two.
You would get significantly better performance from a solid-state drive compared to a normal hard-drive, it’s true, but we don’t think it’s worth the trade-off for cost and amount of storage, given the loading-time optimisation most games have these days.
The Xbox green front and simple embossed logo mean it won’t look out of place in your gaming set-up
Xbox Design Lab controllers
With the Xbox Design Lab you can get a controller that is clearly, obviously, obnoxiously yours.
Xbox Design Lab controllers £59.99 to £79.96 – buy it now
There are a number of pre-designed ones you can either buy, or use as starting points for your own design
For only a little bit more than an off-the-shelf you can get a controller that not only feels better thanks to optional extra grips on the back, but that looks unlike any other.
As well as millions of colour combinations for the front, back, triggers, thumbsticks, D-pads and even face buttons, you can even get it engraved with your gamertag.
You really can make the controllers as ugly or unique as you like
Razer Wolverine Ultimate controller
If you want a really premium controller, though, the Razer Wolverine will sort you out.
They look and feel sturdier than the original Xbox Controllers, and come complete with fancy rear switches on the underside.
Razer Wolverine Ultimate, £159.99 – buy it now
Everything about the Wolverine feels incredible – and works even better
Playing something like Fortnite these mappable buttons can really take your gaming to the next level.
Customisability really is the name of the game here too. As well as remapping the buttons via Razer’s Synapse software directly on your Xbox or PC you’ve got full control over the Wolverine’s RGB lighting.
There’s even hardware customisability too with multiple height thumbsticks, as well as swappable four-button and tilting D-pads.
Combine that with the ability to switch control sensitivity for the thumbsticks on the fly and you have a controller that really will improve your performance.
The four extra buttons on the underside are in easy reach of your fingertips, and using them rapidly becomes second nature
Razer Atrox Arcade Stick
If you’re still playing Street Fighter V or Tekken 7 with your normal controllers, you’re missing out.
And with Mortal Kombat 11 coming out next year, but no major new Xbox fighting game releases recently, it’s the perfect time to get your hands on a fightstick quickly.
Razer Atrox Xbox One, £179.99 – buy it now
The Atrox is a serious piece of kit — it is weighty, bulky and will stand up to a lot of punishment
It’s already got top-notch components, but if you happen to want to upgrade it further down the line or just switch out the buttons and stick for one with a different feel, you can.
The top pops up with the press of a button, and it’s built from the ground up with customisability in mind.
The Atrox competes with the best sticks out there from specialist companies like Hori — and if you’re a fighting game fan, it’s an investment that you’ll keep be happy with for YEARS.
The inside is just as well designed as the outside, complete with cable storage
