A woman who was kidnapped and raped for months when she was 14 has brought together six of the US’ most well-known abduction survivors.
Elizabeth Smart has made television history by uniting the women for the first time in a bid to help Jayme Closs, 13, who escaped her abuser in January after being held captive in a cabin for 88 days.
Jayme’s captor Jake Patterson, 21, kidnapped her from her Wisconsin home in the middle of the night after her parents were murdered in October.
Elizabeth, now 31, was held captive for nine months after being taken by Brian David Mitchell and his wife Wanda Barzee from the bedroom she shared with sister Mary Katherine, aged nine, at their home in Salt Lake City, Utah.
She has brought the other victims together to help young Jayme ‘move forward’ with her life following her ordeal in new Lifetime show Smart Justice: The Jayme Closs Case, reported the Daily Mail.

Elizabeth tells the women sat round a table: ‘I remember hearing the news and thinking “She did it! Another one of us got away.”
‘When I came home, my parents were waiting for me. But that didn’t happen for Jayme.’
The survivor added that nothing can prepare a person for being kidnapped and wants the teenager to know ‘she is one of us’.
She added: ‘Only a few of us know what it’s like, and we need to stick together to help Jayme. We want to help her move forward.’
Similar to Jayme’s story, at the age of 13 Sarah Maynard witnessed the murder of her mother and brother before being kidnapped by Matthew Hoffman, 30, in 2010.

Georgina DeJesus was tortured and raped for nine years (Picture: Lifetime)
She was tied up in a basement for four days and assaulted, before her family’s bodies were found stuffed in a tree.
Georgina DeJesus was just one year older than Jayme when she was kidnapped by Ariel Castro, dubbed ‘The Monster of Cleveland’, and held captive for nine years alongside Amanda Berry, and Michelle Knight.
She was finally rescued in 2013 after Amanda escaped and went to the police after suffering nearly a decade of torture.
In 1992, Katie Beers, 10, was abducted by family friend John Esposito, 43, who chained her in a coffin-sized wooden box and raped her for 17 days.

Alicia Kozakiewicz was 13 when she was kidnapped by Scott Tyree, 38, who tortured her in a basement and livestreamed her rape after connecting with her through online games in 2002.
That same year, Kara Robinson, 15, was abducted from a friend’s garden by serial killer Richard Marc Evonitz, 38, who tied her to his bed and raped her.
She managed to escape while he was sleeping during the night.
The most recent victim, Denise Huskins, 28, was kidnapped and sexually assaulted in 2015 by Matthew Muller, 36, a Harvard-educated lawyer.

Police initially took her case as a hoax after she was held ransom for two days, before being released near her father’s home.
Elizabeth called the group a ‘sisterhood unlike any other’ as they discuss their horrific experiences and how their lives have changed since they escaped.
The women added they want Jayme to know her ‘book isn’t closed’ and hope by speaking out they will help with her recovery.
Smart Justice: The Jayme Closs Case will air Saturday April 27 at 8pm – US time – on Lifetime.
