McCall appeared before the Digital, Culture, Media and Sports Committee on Tuesday to speak to MPs about the dating show’s application and aftercare processes. She was asked about claims by Love Island fans and former stars such as Sherif Lanre – who was dropped from the show – who felt that black contestants weren’t shown on screen as much. McCall argued that Yewande Biala and Danny Williams being at the centre of recent major drama, and Michael Griffiths and Amber Gill’s popularity was evidence this wasn’t the case. She told the committee: ‘There’s diversity in terms of background and in terms of BAME. I think we work very hard to make sure it’s as representative as possible. ‘I don’t see the evidence for [BAME contestants getting less screen time] and if there was we would take that very seriously. ‘Yewande and Danny had an enormous amount of air time as a result of what was going on with them. Michael and Amber are one of the most popular couples.’ Yewande was dumped by Danny on last night’s show (Picture: ITV) Last night’s episode saw Yewande leave the villa after Danny dumped her to couple up with newcomer Arabella Chi. McCall also put forward that while Love Island contestants tend to be ‘fit, young and healthy’, the channel was incredibly diverse as a whole. ‘ITV do a range of shows. They are very different shows and they show the diversity of Britain including body image,’ she said. [metro-tag-post-strip] ‘All of those shows have a range of shapes and sizes. Love Island, the people tend to be young and healthy, we do do a BMI test, and if you look at the series now they’re not all the same shape. They are different. There are variations of shape. They are all fit, healthy young and it’s a dating show. ‘It’s not I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here. We’ve seen autism with Anne Hegerty on I’m A Celebrity and Lost Voice Guy on Britain’s Got Talent, people are pleased to see that on ITV. I think it depends on the show.’ Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2. Yewande Biala’s time on Love Island is sadly over (Picture: ITV) Yewande Biala has become the latest casualty of the Love Island villa after she was dumped from the show on Monday night. The 23-year-old scientist exited after the latest round of recoupling, which saw her partner Danny Williams choose newcomer Arabella Chi instead of her, leading to her packing her bags and heading out after none of the other boys chose her. All of which means that we no longer get to hear that accent of hers around the villa – the one which viewers fell in love with as soon as she arrived. So just where is Yewande from? Here’s what you need to know… Where is Love Island’s Yewande Biala from? Yewande – who was one of the original Islanders to enter the villa on Day Dot – is from Dublin, Ireland. She is 23 years old, which made her one of the younger contestants this year – currently Tom Walker is the oldest at 29, and Anna Vakili, Arabella Chi, Callum Macleod and Maura Higgins are all 28. The Irish scientist was left without a partner after Danny Williams coupled up with Arabella Chi instead (Picture: ITV) However she is older than current couple Molly-Mae Hague and Tommy Fury, who are 20 are the youngest currently in the villa – while Sherif Lanre, who was removed earlier in the series, is also 20. Who was Yewande coupled up with on Love Island? Yewande began her Love Island journey coupled up with Michael Griffiths, although the pair didn’t last in spite of eventually sharing a snog during a raunchy cowboy game. She quickly caught Danny’s eye when he arrived, with the pair sharing a romantic date and later coupling up – although his head was turned by the arrival of Arabella, leading to a tense love triangle between the pair. Ultimately Danny was forced to choose between the two of them at the recoupling, eventually opting for Arabella – and since leaving Yewande has made her feelings about the partnership very clear. [metro-video id=”1952582″] ‘She knew she wanted Danny,’ she said after leaving. ‘I feel like if he does get to know her, it’s not going to work. There are so many factors – they’re so different, and the age gap. ‘You have to be realistic. He’s just starting his life – he’s only 21. They are in two different phases of their lives. In the villa, it’s very easy to forget.’ Love Island continues on ITV2 on Tuesday night at 9pm. LOVE Island bosses are facing more equality questions after the only remaining black contestant was booted out the villa. Yewande Biala, 23, lost her place in the ITV2 villa after partner Danny Williams chose to couple up with a newcomer. Yewande is the latest Islander to be booted from the villa Scientist Yewande broke down in tears after facing rejection from other potential suitors. Her exit comes three weeks after she was picked last during the first coupling-up ceremony. It was the fourth year in a row that a contestant from an ethnic minority had faced the humiliation. A week later, Sherif Lanre, who is also black, was kicked out for using the offensive term “c*** punt” after play-fighting with Molly-Mae Hague. Afterwards Sherif, 20, told The Sun he may have been a victim of “unconscious racism” after he was repeatedly reprimanded for mistakes that other contestants seemed to get away with. Yewande’s exit has prompted further questions over equality on the show Yewande waits to find out her fate along with the other Love Island girls during tonight’s recoupling He added: “The producers might not have been aware of what they were doing but they may have had an inherent bias in their minds that caused them to act against me.” Meanwhile ex-Islander Marcel Somerville, who was also picked last in the 2017 opener, said: “As a person of ethnic background you do feel ‘is it because I’m black?’” There is no suggestion the show’s producers are racially motivated. Last night Dubliner Yewande was passed over in favour of blonde London model Arabella Chi, 28 — despite Danny insisting no one else would tempt him. Yewande later lashed out at Arabella for being “dishonest” and said the pair had no choice of working on a romantic level. Danny was left to choose between Yewande and Arabella in the recoupling The other Islanders said their goodbyes to Dubliner Yewande as it was revealed that she would be leaving the villa Love rival Arabella gave her a hug She said: “I hate it when a bombshell comes in saying, ‘I want to get to know everyone’, because that is a lie. She knew she wanted Danny. “I feel like if he does get to know her, it’s not going to work. “There are so many factors – they’re so different, and the age gap. TOMMY Fury has shown that what he has in brawn, he lacks in brains – especially when it comes to the skills that’ll get him through life. From his cheese on toast monstrosity to cutting an ice cube with a butter knife, we take at look at how Tommy, 20, has shown he simply doesn’t have a clue. And then when that failed, Tommy turned to a fork. One viewer joked: “Tommy trying to cut ice with a butterknife is my last brain cell trying to function.” Another said: “Watching Tommy trying to cut that block of ice with a table knife actually hurts!” [pod_component pod_component_config_id=”20190612-signup-m0JIB5FO-” pod_component_config_url=”https://www.thesun.co.uk/nu-sun-pod-component-config-prod/20190612-signup-m0JIB5FO-.json” pod_component_config_loader_url=”https://www.thesun.co.uk/nu-sun-pod-loaders-prod/1.63.0/componentLoader.js?73454″ src=”https%3A%2F%2Fiframe.thesun.co.uk%2Fnu-sun-pod-widgets-prod%2Fiframe-pod.html%3Fid%3D20190612-signup-m0JIB5FO-%26script%3Dhttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.thesun.co.uk%2Fnu-sun-pod-loaders-prod%2F1.63.0%2FcomponentLoader.js%3F73454%26config%3Dhttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.thesun.co.uk%2Fnu-sun-pod-component-config-prod%2F20190612-signup-m0JIB5FO-.json”]

It’s been a difficult few days for Yewande Biala (Picture: ITV) Yewande Biala has been left to question her future in the Love Island villa in the wake of her partner Danny Williams‘ date with newcomer Arabella Chi. In scenes to be aired on Sunday night the Irish scientist tearfully makes her feelings known as she finds out Danny is interested in Arabella, in spite of telling her and others that he is only interested in her. Viewers can expect a tense exchange between the pair on Sunday night’s show, while a clearly emotional Yewande later tells the camera: ‘I don’t understand why someone can’t just want me.’ Yewande is one of the original 2019 cast members, having joined the villa on Day Dot – but what else do we know about her? How old is Love Island star Yewande Biala? Yewande Biala is 23 years old and is from Dublin. That makes her one of the younger contestants this year, with Tom Walker the oldest at 29, and Anna Vakili, Arabella Chi, Callum Macleod and Maura Higgins all 28. Yewande and Danny got together following their romantic date (Picture: ITV) However she’s older than her show partner Danny Williams who is 21, as well as this year’s youngest Islanders Molly-Mae Hague, Tommy Fury and Sherif Lanre, who are all aged 20. Who has Yewande been coupled up with so far? [metro-video id=”1950696″] Yewande was initially coupled up with Michael when she first arrived in the villa – although the pair took a little time to warm up, only sharing their first snog during a raunchy cowboy game. Danny’s arrival changed everything, however, as the pair shared a romantic date and he made his feelings known. The pair have since coupled up, while Michael has moved on to Amber – but who knows what will happen now that Arabella has turned Danny’s head? What is Yewande Biala’s Instagram? You can keep up with Yewande on social media at @yewande_biala/ Love Island continues on ITV2 on Sunday night at 9pm. Sherif Lanre has been busy working on his fitness (Picture: Instagram) Love Island‘s Sherif Lanre has been busy working on his fitness since leaving the Majorcan villa and fans are still calling for his return. The 20-year-old chef, who was kicked off the show earlier this month for kicking Molly-Mae Hague in the groin and later joking about the action, was put through his paces in an intense routine made up of a whole load of crunches, leaving us out of breath and sweaty just from watching. Sharing the work out video with his 400,000 Instagram followers, Sherif wrote: ‘Back grafting with @pro.pt. Put me through my paces and got me feeling alive again! Give them a follow if you’re really trying to be in shape for summer! [Sic].’ Fans are desperate to see Sherif back in series five and made their feelings known in the comments, with one writing: ‘Petition to get Sherif back in the villa.’ Echoing a similar sentiment, another added: ‘Is there any point watching Love Island if Sherif ain’t on it?’ [metro-video id=”1951792″ video=”https://videos.metro.co.uk/video/met/2019/06/24/1543443765974184929/640x360_MP4_1543443765974184929.mp4″ image=”https://i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2019/06/24/06/15170122-0-image-a-23_1561353291255.jpg”%5D Sherif has been busy since landing back on home soil and last night spent time hanging out with Love Island series three star Marcel Somerville and Geordie Shore’s Charlotte Crosby. Taking a break from flogging car freshener, the star spent the evening watching Aaron Chalmers win against Fred Freeman at Bellator London. The axed contestant hasn’t shied away from talking about his shock exit either and just a few days ago he claimed that the show’s bosses didn’t fully explain the reasons behind his axe until he returned back to the UK. Speaking on the BBC’s The Reality Tea podcast, Sherif explained: ‘It wasn’t read out to me until I got home, it was described to me as “other behaviour.” Sherif and Marcel Somerville have been hanging out (Picture: Instagram) [metro-tag-post-strip] ‘Until I got home, that’s when my mum asked. I didn’t know exactly what I had done.’ He also believes that he was ‘treated like a criminal’ for for the incident and explained how he wasn’t allowed to say goodbye to the rest of the 2019 cast before being removed. Love Island airs tonight at 9pm on ITV2.
