Jamaree Bouyea continues to make a big impact off the bench for the University of San Francisco men’s basketball team. The 6-foot-2 sophomore guard has appeared in all 24 games for the Dons (18-6), averaging nearly 24 minutes a game. Bouyea, who prepped at Palma, is averaging 6.2 points, shooting 46 percent from the field. He’s also pulling down 3.3 rebounds. Handling the point and two-guard position, Bouyea is third on the team in assists (34), steals (21) and block shots (13). Bouyea was a two-time Herald Player of the Year in basketball, guiding the Chieftains to three straight undefeated Gabilan Division seasons, and a spot in the State Division IV title game in 2016. Allen finding time on the floor in the NBA’s G-League Noah Allen has seen his minutes and scoring average increase over the last month for the Capital Go-Go of the NBA’s G-League. The Palma product has played in 26 games for the Go-Go, averaging 23 minutes a game. Allen is averaging 8.2 points a night. The 6-foot-7 guard is also pulling down 4.7 rebounds and doling out nearly two assists a game. The just turned 24-year-old rookie played for the Warriors Summer League team in 2017. He led the University of Hawaii in scoring and rebounds as a senior. Allen was a four-year starter at Palma, earning the Herald’s Player of the Year honor twice. Given producing for UC Davis Former Notre Dame slugger Marisa Given started the first three games for the UC Davis softball team, doubling and driving in a pair of runs. Given, who began her college softball career at Oregon before transferring last spring to Davis, has been flawless in the outfield. The junior was The Herald’s Softball Player of the Year and Female Athlete of the Year in 2015. Synchronized sensations Corrine Harris was a gold medalist in the intermediate division in the 18-over solo competition at the Seaside Synchronized Swimming Championships. A member of the Cypress Swim Club, Harris was one of 10 members to reach the podium in their respective events. Sisters Reagan and Scarlet Dotterer were second in the 9-10 year-old novice division duet, as were sisters Camilla and Olivia Vasquez in the 11-13 novice duet. The foursome also teamed up to finish fourth as a team in the 11-12 division. Makennah Garrison and Grace Jobst placed second in the advanced level duet, with Garrison taking fifth in the solo routine and Jobst fifth. The masters competition saw Linda Francis Wallace place second, followed by Leslie Perez Palma (third) and Stephanie DeSousa (fourth). Hard luck debut for Main in the circle Transfer Jensen Main made her debut for the Sacramento State softball team, absorbing a pair of losses in two starts. The right-handed hurler pitched well enough to win her first two outings, posting a 3.00 earned run average. The junior spent her first two years at the University of New Mexico, appearing in 57 games — 46 starts. She won 15 games, tossing 245 innings. Main was a four-sport standout at Stevenson, earning The Herald’s Female Athlete of the Year award in 2016. Hot start at the plate for Basaldua Former Gonzales High slugger Natalie Basaldua is hitting .400 for the William Jessup softball team. All of Basaldua’s hits in the first week of the season have been for extra bases. She also has a sacrifice fly and two runs batted in. Last year Basaldua hit .390 for William Jessup, driving in 17 runs. She was a four-year starter at Gonzales. Hole-in-one Kevin Lienhard and Jeremy McAlister both recorded hole-in-ones at Del Monte Golf Course in Monterey. Lienhard used a 6-iron on the fourth hole to hit the 173-yard distance on one shot, while McAlister used a 4-iron to sink a hole-in-one on the sixth hole, which is 197 yards. Seaside’s Finest basketball tryouts Seaside’s Finest’s AAU basketball program is holding tryouts for its high school-age team March 3 from 5-7 p.m., and March 10 from 5-7 p.m. Tryout fee is $30.
