Apollo 11 gets all of the attention (particularly now, around the 50th anniversary), but in total there were six manned landings on the moon. By 1972, Jack Schmitt and Gene Cernan made the moonwalks of Apollo 17 look almost routine. When they left, Cernan made some closing remarks: As I take man’s last step from the surface, back home for some time to come (but we believe not too long into the future), I’d like to just say what I believe history will record: That America’s challenge of today has forged man’s destiny of tomorrow.Gene Cernan Apollo 17 astronauts Gene Cernan and Jack Schmitt sing while walking on the moon during the last Apollo lunar landing mission. It’s taken longer than he might have imagined, but NASA wants to go back to the moon. This time, it’s looking to commercial partners to tackle some of the challenges, like crew transport, the use of lunar resources and surviving extreme environments. NASA lays out the plan in a video titled “We Are Going,” narrated by William Shatner, better known as Capt. James T. Kirk: NASA lays out its plan to go back to the moon, with the help of commercial partners. The partnerships get complicated quickly. To start, NASA recently selected 12 commercial, unmanned science projects that it’ll send to the moon through its Commercial Lunar Payload Services project. To get them there, it’ll become a customer of three different private companies — Astrobotic, Intuitive Machines and OrbitBeyond — which will build the spacecraft for moon deliveries. “NASA is developing the plans, and they’re looking for who the best partners to execute these plans will be,” said Eric Stallmer, president of the Commercial Spaceflight Federation, a trade organization. “A lot of this work will be done with commercial companies that have the expertise in doing these things.” Blue Origin, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos’ rocket company, also unveiled plans to take people to the moon using a flashy video (but no “Star Trek” voiceover this time, sorry).  Jeff Bezos’ space company, Blue Origin, shows its plans to take people to the moon. It’s also among 11 companies selected by NASA to design a spacecraft capable of landing humans on the lunar surface, including other big names like SpaceX, Boeing, Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman. “We’re making a lot of progress and a lot of headway towards getting back to the moon and beyond the moon,” Stallmer said. Getting to the moon might not be the national priority it was during the Apollo era, but there’s plenty of renewed focus now, with the motivation that it makes good business sense.

She pressed two fingers against his neck. “No, thank heavens. Just unconscious.” She grabbed him under his armpits and tugged, but she couldn’t lift him. “Help me lift him. We’re bringing him back with us.”

(AP) — Dust off your Captain Marvel cosplay, San Diego Comic-Con is here. The four-and-a-half day convention kicked off Wednesday with the show room floor opening to thousands vying for exclusive merchandise, from art to toys. Later, Warner Bros. is hosting a ScareDiego event promising some hair-raising new footage from “It: Chapter Two.” “We have some exciting footage but I can’t go into details,” said “It” director Andy Muschietti. “But I think it’s going to be worth it for the fans to go and watch.” SATURDAY July 20th at 6:45pm- It’s the Big “BATMAN” 1989 MOVIE 30th ANNIVERSARY! Join Originator & Executive Producer of the Batman film franchise Michael Uslan as he celebrates this revolutionary film that changed Hollywood and the world culture! Q&A to follow. Room 6A. #SDCC50 pic.twitter.com/UxCaKNnpQE — San Diego Comic-Con (@Comic_Con) July 12, 2019 Workers were putting the final touches on the all the branded exhibitions Wednesday evening, like the Walking Dead-themed AMC “Deadquarters” installation, while enthusiastic fans lined up outside of the convention center. A few were already in full costume, including a man in a “Stranger Things” Hawkins Police uniform and an Australian couple dressed as Marty McFly and Doc Brown, although most opted for the nerd-approved t-shirt (there were more than a few AT-AT, Jurassic Park and Laura Palmer shirts) for badge pickup. Those in full cosplay were grateful for the cooler-than-usual temperatures. Cheers everyone! 🥃 Who’s headed to Comic-con? 🤖 I am and I can’t wait to see all in San Diego ✨ Love, Shohreh 💙💚#ComicCon #TheExpanse #SDCC2019 pic.twitter.com/tw7mz4skLy — Shohreh Aghdashloo (@SAghdashloo) July 18, 2019   “I would be melting,” said Ana Nibbla of San Diego, who was dressed as a female Pennywise, or “Princess Pennywise” as she likes to call it. She likes to hit the convention floor early to check out exclusives from artists who don’t go to conventions often. “This is the one time a year I get to see them in person,” she said. And although Wednesday is typically quiet, lines and big groups could be found offsite as well, including the dozens of people who’d gathered outside a Conan O’Brien taping hoping to catch the cast of “It: Chapter Two.” “This is my favorite, I’m a huge Stephen King fan,” said Cheryl Dolbel from Jersey in the Channel Islands, who was wearing a t-shirt with artist drawings of both Tim Curry and Bill Skarsgård as Pennywise. “We tried to go for the taping, but we couldn’t get in. We’ve been waiting a few hours.” “What is Comic Con to you?” RDJ: “To me, it’s like the closest thing I get to being a rockstar.” #RDJ #ComicCon pic.twitter.com/VvvaiR3Wtm — Robert Downey Jr. (@rdjquotes) July 17, 2019 She’s hoping to see Skarsgård and James McAvoy and later in the week is going to visit the “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” installation. As the week goes on, movie fans will also get a look at Paramount’s “Terminator: Dark Fate” at a Hall H presentation Thursday, and on Saturday be treated to a Marvel Studios presentation with its president, Kevin Feige. Details for the Marvel show are being kept under wraps, but many expect Feige and his “special guests” will outline the plans for Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which could include announcements about “Black Widow,” ”Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” ”Shang-Chi” and “The Eternals.” The movie fare is lighter than usual, however. A few of the studios have chosen to sit this year out, like Sony, which is already cleaning up at the box office with “Spider-Man: Far From Home,” and Universal Pictures, which doesn’t have any superheroes on its slate at all. Although Warner Bros. is coming with “It: Chapter Two,” it does not have a big Hall H presentation planned for any of its DC properties like “Joker” and the Harley Quinn spinoff “Birds of Prey.” And there will be no “Star Wars” news either. “If anything, the exiting of some movie studios has made more room for TV and TV is just the best of the best right now,” said Perri Nemiroff, a senior producer for Collider.com and host of the YouTube series Movie Talk. Television enthusiasts will have their pick, whether they want one last go-around the cast of a show that’s ended (like “Game of Thrones” and “Supernatural”), to check in with some old favorites (“The Walking Dead,” ”The Good Place,” ”Westworld,” ”Arrow,” ”Rick and Morty” and “Riverdale”), or get first look at a new property (such as “Snowpiercer,” ”Star Trek: Picard” and “The Witcher”). Occasionally this means throwing a Comic-Con newbie into the mix. HBO is bringing Lin-Manuel Miranda out for his first ever convention to promote the new show “His Dark Materials.” The Wendig/Miranda breakfast meetup you were waiting for #SanDiegoComicCon pic.twitter.com/GBo8fcUD5C — Lin-Manuel Miranda (@Lin_Manuel) July 18, 2019 Last month Miranda tweeted a modest request for fans: “Be gentle, it’s my first Comic-Con.” Copyright 2019 The Associated Press. Promising pop singer King Princess has formally announced her debut album. It’s titled Cheap Queen and is due for release this fall through Columbia Records and Mark Ronson imprint Zelig Records. Cheap Queen is named after her recent single of the same name. Her first-ever full-length follows 2018’s Make My Bed EP, a collection boasting the artist’s breakthrough single and one of our favorites of the year, “1950”. It also comes after her collaboration with Fiona Apple. The soundtrack is incredible (Picture: Disney via AP) The original Lion King movie is something of a classic, with many people being able to remember the words to the Elton John-penned songs 25 years on. When it was announced that Disney would be remaking the movie, it would have been easy to worry that the new line-up (and the music that went with it) wouldn’t be able to do it justice. As soon as Beyoncé came on the scene, however, film lovers breathed a sigh of relief, knowing that the whole thing was in safe hands. Her voice takes centre-stage in much of the new soundtrack, and she’s also released an album called The Lion King: The Gift, which is supposed to take people on a journey into the storyline. The Gift features African singers and producers, in order to reflect the setting of the movie. If you’re worried, however, that you aren’t seeing as many songs as you’d hoped from the original soundtrack, never fear. It is definitely a musical, and you’ll still have some of your favourites. [metro-video id=”1950000″] Both The Gift and the OST are separate albums although they do have a few songs in common. The movie will still feature classic songs like Circle of Life and I Just Can’t Wait To Be King. Of course, Hakuna Matata will also be there. Beyoncé’s track, Spirit, is a welcome new addition, and you can listen to The Gift alongside all the classics to get the full experience. Here’s the tracklist for you. Get ready for Sir Patrick Stewart’s best performance to date, apparently (Picture: CBS/Amazon Prime) He’s one of the finest actors that ever lived but apparently the best is yet to come from Sir Patrick Stewart in Star Trek: Picard. The British thespian floored Trekkies in every corner of the galaxy last year when it was announced he’d be digging out his Next Generation uniform to reprise his role as the icon, myth and legend that is Jean-Luc Picard. But according to showrunner Michael Chabon, we’ve never experienced this level of Paddy before. Loved him in Logan? Or as Poop in The Emoji Movie? Well wait for this. ‘The quality of Patrick’s acting, if anything, has gotten even better over time and he was already a master,’ Chabon told Entertainment Weekly. ‘He has an ability to hold you riveted even when he’s just sitting and listening.’ Executive producer Alex Kurtzman was equally as enthusiastic over Stewart’s performance. ‘We spent a lot of time with Patrick, and you know what? He’s incredibly brilliant just as a human, and very warm, and obviously he knows Jean-Luc Picard better than anybody,’ explained Kurtzman. [metro-video id=”1931360″] ‘And you know, he was really the one who from the outset said, “I don’t want to do this unless we’re breaking new ground. I don’t want to just play the character I played, why come back to that? We did that already.”’ We’re about to learn a whole heap more about Picard’s next voyage as the cast descend upon this weekend’s San Diego Comic-Con, and will likely bring a new trailer with them. However, we do know there might be a few Next Generation cameos popping up along the way and we know the first cycle will be 10 episodes long and released on Amazon Prime here in the UK. [metro-tag-post-strip] Teasing the show last year, Stewart said: ‘He may not be a captain anymore. He may not be the Jean Luc you recognise and know so well. It may be a very different individual, someone who has been changed by his experiences.’ He added: ‘It will be something, I guarantee it, something very, very different.’Michelle Hurd, Santiago Cabrera, Evan Evagora, Alison Pill, Harry Treadaway and Isa Briones also star. Star Trek: Picard will air on CBS: All Access in the US and Amazon Prime in the UK later this year.
