CLICK HERE if you are having trouble viewing these photos on a mobile device Whether you’re an expert backpacker or have decided that 2019 is the year you’re slipping on that SwissGear gear, this is the list for you. Backpackers have long praised the affordability of traveling through India, Thailand or Eastern Europe, but this fresh list from Will Hatton, aka The Broke Backpacker, offers unique suggestions for cheap travel — with travel and living expenses of $10-$15 a day — in 2019. At the top of the list: Iran. The country’s been touted by everyone from Rick Steves to the late Anthony Bourdain for its rich culture, friendly people and cheap eats. Hatton, who is based in Thailand, calls Iran a “broke backpacker’s haven” for its “legendary hospitality, Islamic architecture and stunning Island of Hormuz,” which he says is his favorite place in the world. Cambodia and Turkey, which also made Indagare’s list of the top under-the-radar destinations for 2019, are also among Hatton’s selections. He says traveling through Cambodia is cheaper than Thailand, and you can “score beer for 25 cents and budget dorm rooms in hostels for just a couple of dollars.” Add in “gorgeous beaches, steamy jungles and the amazing Angkor Wat” and Cambodia is “a solid choice for a first-time budget traveler as it’s safe, easy and fun.” [related_articles location=”left” show_article_date=”false” article_type=”automatic-primary-tag”] Here’s just a taste of The Broke Backpacker’s cheapest countries to visit in 2019.
