The El Camino men’s track and field team finished fifth at the CCCAA Championships this past weekend at San Mateo College. Qwintin Workman recorded second-place performances in the long jump and hurdles. Carson Bix (West Torrance HS) was second in the 1,500 meters with a time of 3 minutes, 58.29 seconds, and Patrick Washington (Carson) placed third in the 110 hurdles (14.54). Matt Arruda (Mira Costa) was fifth in the 10,000 (31:53.66) and sixth in the 5,000 (15:30.72). Former Mira Costa star honored Allie Navarette (Mira Costa), a sophomore on the University of Hawaii-Hilo women’s basketball team, won the Vulcan Female Athlete of the Year award. Navarette set seven school records, including points scored (516) and rebounds (263). She was also a first-team All-PacWest Conference selection and second team All-West Region pick. She averaged 19.8 points and 10.1 rebounds this season. Circle the dates The South Bay Athletic Club all-star baseball game will be played June 4 at 6 p.m. at El Segundo Recreation Park, and the softball game will be held June 5 at 6 p.m. at the same location. The banquet to honor the Daily Breeze All-Area teams will be June 11 at noon at the Redondo Elks Lodge. Ticket information for City Section baseball The City Section Division I baseball doubleheader – Narbonne vs. Bell and Banning vs. Marshall – will be played Wednesday at USC, starting at 4 p.m. Parking will cost $12 and will available in Lot 6 or in Structure A off of Vermont Ave. Tickets will be available at the stadium, starting at $8 for general admission. It will be $6 for students with I.D. and children (4 and under) are free with an adult. The ticket booth and gates open at 3 p.m. The winners of the semifinals advance to Dodger Stadium for the championship game Saturday at 10 a.m. All-City boys volleyball honors Carson junior middle blocker Amery Leomiti was selected to the All-CIF L.A. City Section boys volleyball first team. Leomiti also earned second-team Division I honors. Carson senior outside hitter Richard Arban was a third-team selection. In Division III, Westchester senior outside hitter Jonathan Green was a second team selection. Big West award for UC Irvine’s Palmer UC Irvine sophomore outfielder Jake Palmer (El Segundo), a former Daily Breeze player of the year, earned conference player of the week honors. Palmer hit .714 (10 of 14) in a series sweep of UC Davis.

For the fourth time in six games the Titans scored double-digit runs as they defeated James Madison, 12-3, Sunday afternoon at Goodwin Field. With the win the Titans are now 8-9 this season. Sunday, the Titans got on the board first with one run in the first and two runs in the second inning. Fullerton recorded 14 hits in the win which is the eighth time this season the squad has recorded 10 or more hits in a game. Hank LoForte reached base safely on a RBI single in the second to extend his on-base streak to 62 consecutive games. LoForte’s on-base run is the nation’s longest active streak. The senior went 2-for-5 with two RBI and two runs. All but one Titan batter recorded a hit in Sunday’s contest, and every player who had an at-bat reached base safely in the 12-3 victory. Mitchell Berryhill extended a couple streaks of his own Sunday as he went 2-for-5 with two RBIs and one run to extend his hitting streak to eight straight games while reaching base safely in all 17 games this season. Freshman Michael Knorr, now 1-1, pitched seven scoreless innings, giving up two hits and striking out three. Gavin Velasquez and Titus Groeneweg finished the game, allowing one hit each. Isaiah Garcia had another strong day at the dish, going 2-for-4 on the afternoon with two RBIs. In 13 games this season, Garcia is hitting .417 with a .500 on-base percentage and a .611 slugging percentage. The Cal State Fullerton women’s softball squad (18-10) took down College of Charleston, 7-1, Sunday in their final game of the Easton Invitational. On the weekend, the Titans finished 3-1. Sophie Frost opened the game with four scoreless innings, including a streak of four strikeouts in a row. The Titans got on the board first with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second. Daisy Munoz doubled to center field followed by an RBI single from Irie Siofele, who ended up on third on the play. Sam Kennedy singled to right field to bring in Siofele. After a shutdown top of the third from Frost, Fullerton scored four more runs. Ari Williams led off with a single. Deshea Hill hit a double down the right field line to bring in Williams. Munoz recorded her second knock of the day with a single up the middle. Siofele followed that up with a two-RBI double into the left-center gap making it a 5-0 game. In the fifth, Paola Villegas scored on an RBI single from Kiana Parrish. Villegas got aboard with her first career hit, a triple into right-center. Postseason play: CSUF vs. Bakersfield Cal State Fullerton men’s basketball has accepted an invitation to play in the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament, marking the program’s third straight postseason berth. Head coach Dedrique Taylor’s squad will host the Riley Wallace Classic Game at 7 p.m. tonight against Cal State Bakersfield as the first round of the tournament. The Titans own an overall record of 16-17 on the year and went 10-6 in Big West action to take third place in the league standings. The team then advanced to the final of the Big West Tournament for the second straight year on Saturday but fell to UC Irvine. “We wanted to give our fans at least one more chance to watch this team at Titan Gym,” said Jim Donovan, athletics director. “Especially our seniors that have done so much for the program. But, this is also great experience for the entire team and only helps the program going forward.” Seniors Kyle Allman, Jr., and Khalil Ahmad have been the most prolific scoring duo in program history. Each is in CSUF’s top five in career points. Ahmad is third with 1,748 points; Allman is fifth at 1,667 points. Junior forward Jackson Rowe just became the 26th Titan to score 1,000 career points when he hit 1,009. Alexa Neil has captured her second Big West Softball Freshman Player of the Week award with a batting average of .462 hitting at the Cal State Fullerton-hosted Easton Invitational. Highlights of her performance: • Neil had six hits in 13 at-bats to help the Titans post a 3-1 tourney record. She scored three runs with three RBIs for the week. • The second baseman notched two multiple-hit games. She hit 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI in a 3-1 win over Boston University. Neil scored two of the three Titan runs. • Neil also had a perfect 3-for-3 performance in a 5-1 victory over DePaul. She recorded the game-tying and game-winning RBI against the Blue Demons with her third inning home run and an RBI single in the fourth, respectively. • She also stole a pair of bases and sported a 1.000 fielding percentage in 22 total chances.
