Slum clearance and urban renewal reduce the supply of housing, and increase the supply of homeless people. From Ryan McMaken at mises.org: Homelessness today is often blamed on both “gentrification” and “neoliberalism.” When these terms are used in the context of urban housing, it is usually implied that too much market freedom makes housing unaffordable […]

Who was Joke () phine? My father figure—a secondary head of modern languages that took early retirement, and a sculptor in wood of raptors and big cats, who died aged ninety early in 2014—was a poorly constructed excuse for a woman (or neologism) that also took the material signs and display of a female identity […]

JORDAN JONES says it’s a dream come true to finally be paraded as a Rangers player. The winger signed a pre-contract agreement with Gers in January but played out the rest of the season at Kilmarnock. Jordan Jones speaks to Rangers TV Jones, 24, will meet his new team-mates when he reports for pre-season training at Auchenhowie tomorrow. And the Northern Ireland international is itching to get started at Ibrox after a long six month wait. He told Rangers TV: “I’m absolutely over the moon, it’s a dream come true to finally be here. “I’ve waited long enough for this day to finally come and like I say, I couldn’t be happier now I’m here. “It was tough [waiting]. I haven’t really experienced anything like it before. “I’ve just had to try and get my head down and concentrate on my football. I picked up a slight injury on my shoulder so I’ve had to get that sorted. “It’s been a bit frustrating but the waiting is done now and I can’t wait to get going.” Jones was snapped up by Kilmarnock back in 2016 after being released by Middlesbrough. He enjoyed an impressive three years in Ayrshire, making more than a century of appearances and earning international recognition. And the English-born ace will always look back fondly from his time at Rugby Park. Jordan Jones while in action for Kilmarnock against new side Rangers He said: “It developed me as a footballer and a person. “When I went there I didn’t really have many offers on the table and to be fair they helped me out and I went there and took my chance. “Thankfully this is what it has led to. I think it was a really successful three years and I just can’t wait to get going at Rangers now.” Just weeks after penning a pre-contract with Rangers, Jones delivered a title sucker punch by scoring the winner against his future employers in January. OJO A GO Rangers to land Liverpool ace Sheyi Ojo as Gerrard continues to hunt Ryan Kent While it was a bitter pill to swallow for the Light Blues faithful, it also gave them a taste of things to come from the talented wide-man. He said: “I just want to try and get the fans off their feet – that’s the way I play. “I want to try and add some assists and goals to my game and hopefully bring the club some success.” Jones can’t wait to play under new boss Steven Gerrard, who he grew up idolising from his days as a player at Liverpool. Jones can’t wait to play under Steven Gerrard He said: “I think every young boy used to watch him play and he was a fantastic player and from what I’ve heard he’s a fantastic manager. “The chats I’ve had with him have been really good and positive and I can’t wait to get going with him. “I think the squad is a lot stronger than it’s been. I think the way the gaffer has got the team playing is very good, very structured so it is a challenge. “But it’s a challenge that I’m really up for and I’m determined to get in that starting XI and keep my place.” After missing the season run-in with Killie, Jones has racked up some crucial game time during Northern Ireland’s Euro 2020 qualifying wins against Estonia and Belarus. That’s allowed him to spend some time with Steven Davis and Kyle Lafferty, who have delivered the lowdown on life at Ibrox. Davo has always been really good with me since I went into the Northern Ireland team. “So has Gareth [McAuley] and Laff is a bit of a joke but to be fair all three of them have been really good. “They’ve been looking forward to me coming and I’m looking forward to joining up with them.” Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers from Scottish football plus fixtures, results and live match commentary  [bc_video video_id=”6048441899001″ account_id=”5067014667001″ player_id=”default” embed=”in-page” padding_top=”56%” autoplay=”” min_width=”0px” max_width=”640px” width=”100%” height=”100%” caption=”Former Rangers captain Fernando Ricksen fears ‘time is ticking away’ as he battles motor neurone disease”]

ustralian shores were shaking under the weight of pure riffage earlier this month as Dallas’s finest trio of doom-connisuers WoFat arrived here for the first time, bringing their intense display of unintelligibly heavy kick-assery all down the east coast for the groove-hungry aliens of the Aussie psych rock scene to indulge in delightedly. The earthquake of a tour ended last night at Crowbar, Fortitude Valley, and I had the explicit pleasure of seeing their final show with some of the finest local supports on offer in tow – Stoker and Fumarole.
