Stone and Japan

Setting Japanese stone lantern would be an easy way for making Japanese garden or room in your place. However, since usual stone lanterns are quite big and heavy, as you know, it is difficult to ship to overseas. I guess many foreign people who like to have Japanese style garden gave up to place stone […]

There’s murder and mayhem hiding just beneath the glitzy surface of Kabukicho in a new trailer for Kabukicho Sherlock, an upcoming original TV anime that re-imagines the characters of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic detective stories as modern day sleuths prowling the shadows of Tokyo’s “Sleepless Town”. In addition to highlighting the cast and the setting, […]

LAGUNA SECA  — Toni Elias often refers to his team as a family, a comparison not unusual in sport. But the close relationship is what Elias believes gives him an edge in motorcycle racing where success can be determined by nuance. Elias, the 2017 MotoAmerica Superbike Champion from Spain, will be favored again beginning Friday in the Superbike Class of the MotoAmerica Championship of Monterey at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. “To me, the team is like a family; we have a really good connection with each other,” said Elias, the season points leader in his fourth season with Yoshimura Suzuki. “Every single part of the team. The difference for us is that we have a lot of experience.” Following track inspection and track familiarization Thursday, a full day of MotoAmerica practice and qualifying sessions in several categories will be held Friday beginning at 7:55 a.m. and concluding at 5 p.m. Two practice sessions of MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship, the prestige races of the three-day event, will also be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. As Elias and his competitors know, a slight mechanical adjustment, a strategy tweak or just instant instinct honed via experience often determines race outcomes. “We have found out some of the problems from the past, like with tires,” said Elias. “It’s always something and you’re always trying to improve. But the most important thing is that it’s the fourth year with the same team and the same people. Now when we have a problem, we are more quick to react and more quick to find a solution. “The rider rides, yes. But there are the guys who talk with the team, explain the problem, and there’s a group working on the computer, with the data. There are mechanics, technicians, the crew chief, the timing people. Everyone is the same and must mesh perfectly.” With double wins last month in Utah, Elias extended his season lead to 26 points over Cameron Beaubier (Monster Energy/Yamalube/Yamaha) of Roseville, 201-175. The MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship, which began in Australia in February, will conduct its ninth round of the season at WeatherTech Raceway. Four-time defending titlist Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki) of Northern Ireland returns for this year’s MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship at WeatherTech Raceway, Laguna Seca.  (Vern Fisher – Monterey Herald file) Four-time defending titlist Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki) of Northern Ireland who has five wins this season including two victories last week in Great Britain, is the season leader with 376 points. Spaniard Alvaro Bautista (Ducati), who had won 11 straight race of is second with 352 points, with Michael Van Der Mark of The Netherlands third with 206 points. The standings’ top three riders will compete at Laguna Seca among the circuit’s veteran lineup. But it will also include J.D. Beach (Attack Performance Estenson Racing Yamaha) of Owensboro, Ky., who will make his World Superbike debut. Beach will also compete in the MotoAmerica Superbike division. Beach, a two-time MotoAmerica Supersport Championship winner, was awarded a wild-card entry. “Laguna’s a track that I like a lot. I’ve had a lot of fun there,” Beach said in a press release. “I’m really looking forward to riding a Superbike there again, the last time I did it was 2011. I think it’s going to be a great weekend. I feel like if we can be upfront or be on the podium for MotoAmerica and run top-10 in World Superbike, that would be a great weekend for me and the team.” World Superbike races will continue at 9 a.m. Saturday with the third practice round, followed by the Superpole at 11 a.m. and the series’ first 25-lap race at 2 p.m. The second World Superbike race will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $110 for three days, $100 for Saturday and Sunday and $50 for single-day tickets Friday, $80 on Saturday and $90 on Sunday. Children ages 15 and under are free with a paying adult.
