The composer’s parents, David and Alison Gyger, were the founders of Opera-Opera, a monthly journal they ran for 30 years until its closure in 2008. Their enthusiasm meant that young Elliott was a regular at the Sydney Opera House from about the age of six. Alison made beautiful picture books for him that told stories from the great operas, including — no small stretch for a young musical mind — Wagner’s Ring cycle.
