(AP Photo/David Banks) CHICAGO – Home Depots in the Los Angeles area might have a run on pitchforks and torches if Alex Verdugo doesn’t start playing every day. In his latest argument for an every-day role, Verdugo tripled and scored the Dodgers’ first run in a 2-1 victory over the Chicago Cubs Thursday afternoon. The Dodgers added a run in the eighth inning and held on for a win that allowed them to avoid a sweep at Wrigley Field and head home from a winning road trip (4-3). Verdugo’s triple came off Cubs starter Jon Lester. Verdugo is batting .345 with 10 extra-base hits and 16 RBI despite starting just 11 times in the Dodgers’ first 27 games. And Verdugo has more than held his own against left-handed pitching. He is 4 for 9 against lefties and all four hits have been for extra bases (a double, two triples and a home run). The Dodgers had managed just two baserunners through the first four innings against Lester in his return from the Injured List – a single by A.J. Pollock in the second inning and a two-out double by Cody Bellinger in the fourth. Verdugo led off the fifth with a drive to the ivy in center field. He scored when Cubs shortstop Javier Baez couldn’t handle Chris Taylor’s hard ground ball to his left. That was all the offensive support the Dodgers offered Ross Stripling in his final start for now. Like Julio Urias, Stripling will move into a bullpen role with Rich Hill expected to make his season debut on Sunday against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Using his breaking ball more frequently Thursday, Stripling struck out six and gave up four hits while holding the Cubs scoreless into the fifth inning. [related_articles location=”left” show_article_date=”false” article_type=”automatic-primary-section”]Kyle Schwarber led off with a double but Stripling struck out pinch-hitter Mark Zagunis and got Ben Zobrist to bounce out. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts went and got him anyway. After a walk, Pedro Baez got out of the inning and struck out the side in the sixth. But Caleb Ferguson created his own drama in the seventh, walking one batter and hitting another before Kike’ Hernandez turned an inning-ending double play. The Dodgers bought some needed insurance without a hit in the top of the eighth. Two walks and a hit batter (Justin Turner) loaded the bases. Cody Bellinger drove a run in with a sacrifice fly. With a little more margin for error, Joe Kelly survived a Javier Baez single off the ivy to put up a zero in the eighth. Kenley Jansen couldn’t avoid his own demons. He let the shutout get away when he surrendered a two-out home run to Albert Almora Jr. in the ninth. Jansen has now allowed a run in six of his past seven appearances – but closed out his eighth save in nine opportunities. More to come on this story.

THE LATEST International Monetary Fund (IMF) program document for Argentina—the 3rdReview—was published earlier this month. This document sheds light on the drivers of the public debt sustainability analysis (DSA) that underpin the program.
